We both want more chonk, you’re still misunderstanding my metaphor. It was probably terrible. Anyway… %AS to DM and %WD to Cadence I guess is the most straightforward (albeit boring) solution I guess.
I think some sort of sustain like ADtH to DM would be good too, as cadence lags behind other AAR builds a lot because it doesn’t buff your normal hits so the incoming healing is in large bursts rather than consistent as with other builds.
I also think any buffs to cadence should go to FF where possible to encourage it to actually be properly invested into.
You want Cadence to feel like Cadence and not just another DAR - and it’s not very chonky if it attacks 64 times a second.
Just a pity it doesn’t really function that well in game if you don’t go crazy on attack speed.

Great minds, and all that ![]()
Though I don’t know how much weirder Cadence can get…but it’s interesting in the thematic design of Cadence that Deadly Momentum gives you a global bonus to make other things better too, that Onslaught charges could be spent on the Cadence 3rd hit, OR in line with the Deadly Momentum utility you could choose to break out of Cadence before the 3rd hit and spend them on a Blade Arc or something else.
What, you’re not happy with a whole 10% crit on Warborn?
- Cadence probably deserves a meaty % weapon damage ascended bonus on non-magic items, and the magic item ascension bonus should be higher.
- Whatever approach is used to buff Cadence, I’m here to bring up that there’s never been a better time to do so. If you are not dual-wielding with Cadence, you are far less likely to hit the attack speed cap with a build, which gives the 3 hits required a very distinct FEELING. In a time where Grim Dawn requires more mobility than ever before, you’ll have more moments where you decide whether to stand in place during a boss animation and finish that cadence hit or dodge and use it afterward. This is a minor thing, but that little satisfaction of dodging, then BLAM, smashing that stored cadence hit just the same- it’s nice; it has personality.
I am not even primarily a melee player; I prefer casters, but I think it’s clear that Cadence should remain competitive due to its distinct functionality.
this is not true actually you can hit speed cap easily with both 2h melee, ranged and even pistol & shield
The goal of the patch is to nerf everything else back to cadence level ![]()
That one made me laugh xD
I just had a somewhat profound thought regarding this everreoccuring issue whilst hiking outside (dont blame me for my disfunctional brain thinking about this meanwhile) :
What if you rework this to make wps ONLY trigger on the cadence hit?
What this would accomplish is:
- You occassionally get extremely high dmg hits with the potential for stacking obscene amounts of DOT damage if different WPS stack up in a prolonged fight
- You have to build around the fact that 2/3 of your hits will still be somewhat meanlingless so you need high OA as well as additional survival mechanisms to ensure you survive the worstcase of not livestealing a significant amount 5 hits in a row ( 2 autos 1 cadence miss 2 autos … )
- You would be rewarded for managing the former issues by being able to achieve a higher sustained dps than other DARs after a buildup phase in prolonged fights if you build around DOT damage
Thoughts?
I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work on a technical level.
Since both WPS and Cadence are an override to the actual default attack. Which is why they don’t mesh together in the first place, Cadence simply has priority over WPS overrides.
Though someone more familiar with the code might be able to properly answer if this is actually the case.
I repurposed an old blademaster to use the new awakened slithbane + vilescorn bracers. Turns out all you need to do to make cadence feel good to play is give it a fuck ton of global flat damage and have 350%WD filler WPS lol. Probably the first time I’ve ever enjoyed a cadence build and it’s purely because the filler attacks aren’t total shit.
Share please
Foreword, im no minmaxer so yall will surely make a better version. Obviously the blue items are placeholders since the awakened versions arent on GT yet.
I looked into version with worldkeeper set instead which ended up with 30% more attack speed for faster bonking and similar flat damage, but I didnt try it out.
let me know! sounds like it’ll pretty much certainly be better, 30% is huge for cadence.
And thanks for sharing, I’m excited to try a non chaos cadence build again
I heard people in this thread were into Cadence, so here is a screenshot from my 360 degree Physical Cadence Blademaster (test patch):

It’s still tough sometime because FoA is so melee unfriendly
potions cuz on my way to test new amulet against Ravager
