Can anyone help me with my templar?

Hello everyone.

I just got my templar to 100 and got some decent gear for her.
But even with capped resistances, and 30K DPS, I seem to just be unable to get past malmouth outskirts.

Can anyone see if there is something I am missing?

Hi! You are missing a lot of OA, DA and armor for a lvl 100 melee character. And for the most part you went for fire caster devotions, and they don’t really help surviving for a melee character. I would probably go for a tankier devotion path with light of empyrion. This is kind of a glass cannon build, arcanist doesn’t help either, the flash freeze skill doesn’t work on bosses, so you will have a harder time killing them. Demo, Inquisitor or even soldier would have been a better second mastery for this kind of build.

I have tried going for more defensive devotions, but when I do, I loose 40-50% of my damage, and that makes me lack self-heals and I can’t kill anything :frowning:

Also you need a lot of physical res as melee. I would aim for at least 20 %. Also core stats like armor. but im no expert on beginner gear so somebody else has to do that.

btw: take inner focus and overcap it if you can

devotions yeah well this for example: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4Vx4jPeV

didnt help your oa but its better for melee. I dont know much about oathkeeper so i just did what i thought was best for the fire thing your trying to do.

use stuff like survivors ingenuity from devils crossing on your rings but also just get other equipment and stack oa and da and phys res and get some armor too in the process all these are important next to res. Look at the section where there are farm routes to farm legendaries.

Yes I think there are some issues with the build concept in general, it is a bit hard to make it work. I would go for maxing all parts of vire’s might and charge through packs back and forth and let them burn. Your weapon has support for this playstyle. You cannot tank much with these defenses, and your gear has no support for eye of reckoning at all. So that’s why now mostly your devotions do the damage.

I see your point.
I guess I will have to wait till I get a Mythical Infernal brimstone and some EoR gear :frowning:

You have terrible Offensive Ability, max Presence of Virtue and Inner Focus to make up for it a bit.
You need gear that supports Eye of Reckoning, at the very least get close to hardcapping both EoR and Soulfire (26/16 and 22/22) and convert the lightning to fire, dual wielding Alladrah’s Spellblade work good.

Since you probably lack the gear for it give up on Eye of Reckoning for now and aim for something less demanding. Righteous Fury might be the simplest solution.
I don’t think Vire’s Might is worth using for damage unless you focus a lot more on it, meaning that once again you’ll need some gear to enable it (by reducing cooldown amongst other things). So leave it at minimum for mobility.
Resilience isn’t really worth the heavy investment in my opinion, better get Ascension.

Iskandra’s Elemental Exchange isn’t really worth maxing, in case you didn’t know, ‘Elemental damage’ splits into lightning, cold and fire. So 9 elemental damage would give 3 of each. Same with % increased damage. Resistance reduction however always gives the full value (30 elemental resistance reduction would reduce all 3 resistances by 30 each).

This is a very damage oriented RF setup, other poster suggesting Light of Empyrion also has a point, that route gives much more defense. The reason for why your damage is currently bad is more for reasons as I explained in the start of my post.

I’ll throw together an empyrion version too in a bit.
EDIT: Eeh, Light of Empyrion is good but with your current OA and DA values it’s better to get those up
Here’s a more defense oriented devotion setup for you. It’ll definitely do a lot more damage than your current build.

level 2 maiven and level 9 mirror? just…no!
reckless power over divine mandate on a fire build… another big no. simply cause the 15% phys to aether nerfs your damage and imho the attack speed isn’t better than crit damage. same for level 15 iskandra’s elemental exchange, 27% phys to ele is just 1/3 fire.
level 12 olexra’s flash freeze doesn’t lower bosses fire damage cause it needs to actually freeze and works only as long as the enemy is frozen, so basically another 12 wasted points.
here are my suggested changes:
-max inner focus. (not even 1 point??) for massive offensive ability, fire damage and energy regen.
-remove reckless power and max divine mandate
-max maiven sphere for damage absorption
-max presence of virtue for offensive ability and energy regen
-max arcane will for defensive ability and damage.
-take mental alacrity for skill cost reduction

about devotions… fissure isn’t linked to any skill, you have too few defensive devotions, you have 3 uncompleted devotions and chased lifesteal when eye of reckoning has very low %weapon damage you can lifesteal from.
you absolutely need viper and elemental crown for elemental resistance reduction, you maybe need some energy regen devotion.
try linking giant’s blood to resilience, it gets a 59% chance to activate and only when resilience is up (after you took consistent damage) which is wonderful.
edit: holy shit you need kraken on a 2handed build!!!

I just tested this… Although I couldn’t get to the devoition setup you suggested, but very close.
Seems abit better, with using Vire’s might and meteor shower…
went to 2200 OA now

imho this should work. I have a 2handed eor paladin and it didn’t really need any eor buffs before lvl 94, worked pretty well.

i got you some really good devotions and 2600 oa (with ascension up), plus 2600 da (when arcane will is up). with that +103% crit damage you should be doing plenty of damage.

Devotions can ‘pay for themselves’, you can choose the blue affinity in the crossroad, max Viper for 3 blue then go to the spirit guide and remove the blue affinity from the crossroad.

Here’s a better version of the tanky devotion setup:

I also added OA and DA augments to rings and amulet (Devil’s Crossing rep) and changed some components on gear. Only added components you should be able to craft without farming.
You could fix the resistances a bit better with other armor augments but I don’t know which reputations you have maxed so left it alone.

Came out with 2312 OA (2577 with ascension) and 2798 DA.
Put the build together in such a fashion as to make up for weakpoints. Once you have better gear you can get better results by switching stuff around a bit.
For example Light of Empyrion is a good devotion (unless you go for EoR) but like I wrote in my previous post it’s more important to focus on your OA and DA.

Yeah it might be fine, biggest issue is the damage being split into 3 parts and you ideally want to focus EoR into 1.

This build does make me able to tank krieg without using pots, just standing there pounding at him.
But there is no AoE, and my TTK is higher :frowning:
