Just wondering. I’m inspired by the fact that dual wielding guns is #1 cool and #2 pretty dang cool.
My main concern is damage, and I figure It’d have to be mostly proc based (aoe anyway). I’m unsure if shaman is the best class for this but given I wanted it to be lightning damage, primal strike seems like a good fit. I’ve heard primal strike is currently bugged/broken, but was hoping I could just mod it to fix it.
If anyone has any suggestions/advice, I’m all ears. To this point I’ve only gotten to ~62 (and my first character was a pure bombs demolitionist who i got a little bored with around act4, was too easy, BWC is really strong) loosely following the tri-ele buzzsaw Nightblade/Demo build because i wanted to use daggers for a melee character. It’s fun, but wanna give guns a try (and maybe work in the big shaman pet just cause it gets a little lonely out there by yourself).
If all you’re looking to do is clear ultimate content on softcore, you can do it with just about any concept if you know how to build it. That being said, DW-pistol and pets are about as opposite as you can get for optimizing; pets are typically an all-in kind of playstyle due to the way pet bonuses work. They affect all your pets and ONLY your pets, which relegates you to auras/procs/debuffs, which runs counter to the things you want as a DW-pistol build (attack speed, crit damage, etc.). There ARE some cool hybrid pet builds out there that effectively optimize one or two aspects of a particular pet in conjunction with another idea, but if you want to focus on pure lightning then you’re gonna’ be out of luck because no class pets* are lightning-based.
*: You call that scrawny bird a pet?
If you wanted to just make a DW-pistol lightning build that is less optimized but has a big pet, that works too. Were you referring to the briarthorn or the primal spirit as the big pet you want?
Thank you, I was going to mention that I saw a build you made with dual exonerators floating around but I couldn’t find it and I started to think I just imagined it
I was thinking just the primal spirit, not really for anything other than decoration (for many of the reasons you stated). After reviewing the shaman tree it just didn’t seem optimal. As someone else pointed out primal strike doesn’t even work with pistols.
I tried to re-do it as a arcanist/shaman using some of the arcanist defensive abilities (and the ele damage aura) and savagery instead of primal strike, and it seems OK but I’m not really sold on arcanist (or shaman for that matter), and part of me just wants to make it a fire striker whatever or cadence whatever because it seems so much easier and probably much better.
As pointed out above, hybrid isn’t really optimal. There are some cool hybrids floating around here somewhere
If you like lightning and don’t want to use Demolitionist or Soldier and want to go ranged then i recommend my build that i posted above. I updated it after a long while.
Arcanist seems like it would be a good idea to mix with Shaman for the DW-pistol lightning build because of the aura, but I would argue Druids are one of the weaker class combos for this idea simply because resist reduction is the name of the game and you won’t find any -% lightning resist in either mastery tree. The reason Chton’s Conjurer build works is because CoF has -% lightning resistance.
Druids are arguably a weaker class combo regardless of build because Shaman only has -% bleed and -% vitality resistance which doesn’t pair with Arcanist at all, but that’s a whole other can of worms
Well put Ryzel, to add to this Arcanist also lacks attack speed. Which is why my Aether Witchblade is better than my now respeced and long gone Aether Battlemage.
This is the only thing this build does better than Elementalist. Since Mines aren’t very convenient to use in some situations.
Thanks for the input guys. That build looks good and is basically what I want I think. I was really just looking forward to the chain lightning from primal strike from guns, as that was basically the image in my head for the build idea. So using guns that shoot chain lightning sounds great.
