It seems like mods are only useable as a custom game? Am I missing something? Really don’t want to start a new toon. I downloaded smash n grab and it seems like it doesn’t affect drop rates in my main game. Sorry if this is obvious, but I couldn’t find a definitive answer on google.
All mods are custom games. Some add to the main campaign (like the one you want to use or class mods), others completely replace the vanilla world with their own, but they all cannot be played by vanilla chars.
So either you do start over, or you use a tool to set the mod-flag in the char and make sure its save files are in save\user, not save\main
While technically this is true, there is a way to switch between Custom and Main Campaign with the same character, but only when the mods you’re using don’t modify the masteries or items. So if you have a mod that increases mob/hero spawns for instance, or something that gives you more XP per level…you can go back and forth between Main Campaign and Custom for those kinds of mods. This is accomplished through the use of symbolic links. Watch this video for a guide:
I am pretty sure this will actually work for Smash N Grab, since it doesn’t change classes or items.
Notes to keep in mind:
-
Like I said, this won’t work in mods that modify masteries (classes) and/or items.
-
Make a backup of all your save and character files before you do any of this.
-
Your level, skill point and devotion distribution, and your personal stash and personal inventory will follow you as you switch between the game modes. However, your TRANSFER stash and your RECIPES will NOT follow your character, best I can tell. I tried making symbolic links for the recipies and stash transfer files, but it doesn’t seem to work.
If you put an item in your transfer stash while playing Mod A, it will only be in the transfer stash for characters that play Mod A. It won’t be in the transfer stash for Main Campaign, or other mods like Mod B, Mod C, etc.
Same thing with recipes. If you pick up a blueprint and you learn it while playing Main Campaign, it will only show up in your crafting list on Main Campaign. Likewise if you learn the blueprint while playing Mod A, then the crafting recipe will only be learned in Mod A.
If you plan on taking an established Main Campaign character that has learned lots of recipes into a mod, then when blueprints drop while you’re playing in the mod, I recommend that you DON’T learn them there. Instead keep the blueprints in your inventory, and go learn them in the Main Campaign. This will keep your learned recipes all in one place.
Thanks for the tips. I like this game but I don’t have it in me to grind 1000+ hours for a complete build.
