can people with ashes play with people without ashes expansion?

My friend picked up the base game. I have the expansion. Will we be able to play together?

no

/10 char

That seems…lame…

Just diseble addon and you can play together. Or convince him to bui addon too =)

How do I do that and how will it effect my characters?

Will I be able to make a non expansion character and run that with him while re-enabling the expansion for my other characters?

Grim Dawn is not a MPG primarily so you could imagine how much time devs would need to spend in making MP across different patches balanced and fair :stuck_out_tongue:

Base game, Ashes of Malmouth expansion and Crucible are currently 75% (!!!) off on steam. This special offer ends on february 11.

Just saying …

nah my friend is frugal and doesnt want to pick up the expansions.

Fair enough.

Well you CAN simply uncheck Ashes of Malmouth in your steam libarary.
But that´d probably affect your characters, most likely all AoM characters would become unplayable until you install AoM. Not sure. :undecided:

Make his day and buy it for him. Then steal his wallet ofcourse :stuck_out_tongue:

(Not necessarily in that order)

You cannot use expansion characters in vanilla GD. You’d have to make a new char for vanilla, then when your friend eventually gets AOM (which he should, or you should buy it for him, it adds too much to ignore) you can port the character over to AOM.

The way I understand it, whenever you installed Ashes for the first time and took characters into it, the game will have made duplicates of these characters so that if you ever move back to the base game you have these duplicate characters while the originals are used for the expansion. You might recognise some of your old characters are still around when you disable Ashes, this is why :p. Any characters created during Ashes are unavailable.

You can safely downgrade to the base game but you will have to reinstall Ashes again if you want to play it while your friend isn’t around. In my experience it’s approx. 1 GB or a bit over so it shouldn’t take long on an ok connection.

It’s a crime not to buy AoM expansion if you don’t have it yet.

Playing vanilla makes no sense. GD is AoM. It’s like seeing the first episode of Star Wars and thinking it ended there.

What do you mean, are they working on a sequel? They blew up the Death Star, what more is there to learn?

Unpopular opinion, I find the original starwars trilogy to be pretty crappy. Blowing up the death star by firing a single missile into an exhaust vent doesn’t help either.

Instead of uninstalling the Ashes DLC I recommend to add “/nogdx1” (without the quotes) to the game as start parameter.
This allows you to play the base game without the need of uninstalling the Ashes DLC and to reinstall it again.

Ofc you have to remove the parameter again to play AoM, but this way is faster than uninstalling and downloading the DLC.

Didn’t know this was a thing

Where do I add that?

In Steam. Right click on Grim Dawn in Steam-Library and then “propteries”

A box comes up, under the tab “general” there is a button called “set launch options…”
