It would make leveling easier. Thanks.
Why would anyone want to downgrade an endgame item? It would make more sense to ask Crate to allow smiths to upgrade an item to its empowered or mythical version, but I doubt Crate will implement that. And what would be the in-game justification for this mechanic, anyway? “Hey, let me transform that powerful sword of legends into a butter knife so someone of your level can handle it”.
It is easier to get a mythical version of a legendary than a regular version. People only get a few regular legendaries before hitting level 94 and tons of mythicals after hitting level 94. At least that’s been my experience. Ironically, the pool of “mythical” legendaries available for trade is larger than the pool of “regular” legendaries. Being able to get regular versions would help me level my alts. I don’t think Crate would ever implement upgrades but they might implement downgrades if people wanted them.
Well, I think part of the Grim Dawn endgame is building an army of alts since you can “finish” building a character. Grim Dawn doesn’t have a paragon point system or primal ancients to keep grinding.
Hmm, in-game justification? You can give that “powerful sword of legends” and dynamite to an inventor and she will turn it into scrap. Literally. So maybe the inventor can just trash the mythical a bit so a level 75 can use it? lol
Hm, a reasonable point. Yeah, since the introduction of mythical legendaries, low level legendaries fell out of grace a little. They currently are in a “cool if it drops, but not worthy of my time to farm” state, I mean, why would you want to spend time farming an item that you will simply replace later with its mythical version? Transmuting made this a little less problematic with sets, but the issue still exists. I consider the mechanic you propose a little counter-intuitive, though. But it’s definitely worth discussing.
People are weird. You get the “I want to level with cadence from the start” comedy. You get the “I won’t use curse of frailty on witchblade because it’s pink” cringe. Science can’t explain everything.
I already thought about it but in the other hand you don’t absolutely need legendaries to level up either. So I’m OK with your suggestion but it may be too much work for Crate for quite anedoctical results. Maybe they could just slightly buff regular legs drop in Elite.
Yeah work is also an issue, like mentioned above. Also i’m not entirely sure myself, but so far i kinda would prefer if they “simply” add blueprints for most of the lowlevel stuff than this Downgrade Concept. Idk why, but i feel often highly rewarded when i get blueprints in this game and that also for low-level stuff due i know next time i play a new character i can simply craft this item until we get to the endgame gear. Than again maybe it might bite itself for the “loothunting” though i kinda feel that way already with this downgrade suggestion.
You don’t really need legendaries to level up but it is nice to look forward to when you are grinding up your character. A set of level 68 or level 75 purples to equip is nice incentive. Ideally you would want to equip those items as soon as you hit that level because they will be useless in a few levels. Since the changes to normal and elite difficulties and to the base game, it is much harder to use the Lokarr leveling set to level 94. Instead of using a leveling build to level 94 you could get a taste of your end game build at level 68 or level 75.
The difficulty and base game changes were done to smooth early game progression (make everything tougher to be closer to endgame) but nothing was done to smooth early gear acquisition. You get a few choice pieces self found before level 94 and a flood of items after. I have 8 Mythical Stonetreaders but I would like a level 65 Stonetreader for my alt.
Work wise, the inventor already has something similar in transmute. So maybe it can be an inventor option? Somewhere between dismantle and transmute.
Because there are items that are explicitly better for some builds as basic versions instead of mythicals:
- Blood Sigil of Cthon has a good proc that works for beronath builds and some fire strike builds, but the mythical version’s conversion either does nothing for them or reduces damage.
- Non-mythical Handguards of Justice are BiS for many forcewave builds, but the mythical version’s 100 phys->fire can mess up damage types.
- Non-mythical Blood Orb of Ch’thon saves 200 spirit over its mythical counterpart, which can be better if you don’t need +1 to Shaman.
op, you should rename the title to " Can we get a smith option where we can downgrade our Lvl 94 Mythical/Epic Items to Lvl 75/50 Mythical/Epic Items. "
lvl 94 for End Tier Ultimate Builds
lvl 75 for Epic/Budget Ultimate Builds
lvl 50 for Normal/Veteran/Epic Builds
+1 from me.
but more content like expansion should be prioritized than this
