CC resistances for vitality builds

Since this is an outdated aspect that has been requested repeatedly i wanted to remind it again since most vit builds are still struggling to find CC resistances.

Here’s an example of devo path for 2h caster vit build with highlighted freeze resistance nodes:

As you can see, aside from solemn watcher there’s legit nothing in our way to grab (every other route you’d try, you’ll end up with insufficient points to finish all the necessary constellations and Scales is mandatory if you wanna sustain your energy as a vit caster). You can also notice how the other builds have way easier access to it. Arcanist, Nightblade and Inquisitor builds have it built in but we probably wont see any vit builds coming from them (aside from nofikas vit diviner).

Here’s with stun resistance highlighted:

Literally just 1 15% stun res node, which again you cannot take because you need the energy regen from panther and the phys res from Stag.

Here’s an example of devo route that uses offhand:

Again, same issues. Only real benefit is you get some entrapment resistance. I forgot to mention that entrapment resistance on previously shown devos for vit is 0.

Now lets look at some vitality sets:

Dark One → Dark One’s Gift - Item sets - Grim Dawn Item Database

Aside from 30% stun res on shoulders, the resistances on this set have very low values compared to others. As a caster set it also misses casting speed on gloves (conjurer has 0 casting speed, cabalist with this set needs possession). Flat HP and DA values are too small for what this set is designed for. And last but not least, wendigo totem and pox are still a joke on it (give wendigo some radius and both wendigo and pox some crit mods).

Blightlord → The Blightlord - Item sets - Grim Dawn Item Database

I dont even wanna talk about this one xD. But same issue, no cc res for vit builds with it.

Demonslayer → Demonslayer’s Armament - Item sets - Grim Dawn Item Database

Again, no cc res.

Rotgheist → Rotgheist - Item sets - Grim Dawn Item Database

This is probably the most jacked (by comparison to others) vitality set. All resistances have good values, you find good OA and DA on it, while also having good HP and % damage on it, and stun res. But then again, where is trap and freeze res?

Blood Knight → The Blood Knight - Item sets - Grim Dawn Item Database

Will take a long time until this one will get in a decent spot, both defensive and offensive wise xD. Atm its just mid.

Morgo set → Armor of the Eternal Night - Item sets - Grim Dawn Item Database

Probably the only set that has both stun and freeze res to make up for the lack of these stats in the devo route.

So yeah, generally speaking i think these scenarios need to be looked at and adjusted… There are other damage types and builds too that suffer from the lack of CC, but vitality ones are definitely the most offended.

Cheers!

Definitely needed to craft some Intrepid Warboots of survival for most vitality builds

And lose skill points in the process too. And its not like vit builds have ridiculous damage by comparison to others!

okay, my 2 vitality builds:

gargabol defiler - Defiler, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator - 2 frozen hearts + of the Void Harbinger suffix on pants to cap freeze res, petrify and trap all come from components too.

rotgheist dee conjurer - Conjurer, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator - same 2 frozen hearts and seal of resonance if you want to have some semblance of freeze res, trap/slow are kinda bad. stun not capped too. and when changing components freeze res goes down the drain first and very fast.

same for some chaos builds that have maybe freeze res but very few of other CC.

with attack speed barely capped and nice slow res :D. you lose half of your attack speed when slow debuffed.

I agree about most points except Blood Knight lacking offensively and defensively. It’s a very strong set, only thing it’s lacking is said cc res (and maybe bit better res).

Just to confirm what i was saying in the first post, here’s an example of dark one setup with CC res patched up (oh well excepting slow res).

Everything looks somewhat ok but lets go back to the point of this set and build… We dont have single target damage dealing skill at all and we had to make extra sacrifices in pants and boots slots to get some CC to be able to function when we get slapped in 1000 attacks per second, further decreasing our damage output that already isnt pretty good.

Yeah, most vitality builds to my memory depend on specific affixes on green items, highroll crafts and inferior components to maintain cc res.

I think Rattosh is the best way to address the problem. This cluster was buffed several times but it still doesn’t close the gap between vitality and other dmg types of needing a specific t3 const. to get your -rr%, and getting very low dmg proc on said const. I suggest adding some cc res to its nodes, like 25% slow res for the 2nd and 25% freeze for the 4th.
