Challenger vs Gladiator

Hi there!

What would be most effective (lot wise) to run:

  1. Challenger up to 150
  2. Gladiator around 100

Trying to get set-items is freaking hard in campaign mode :frowning: and there are sooo many cool builds I want to try!

Thanks in advance

If you can’t beat 100-150 Gladiator then do Challenger all the way, no discussion.

Challenger is better. You dont run it just ā€œfrom 100 to 150ā€. You run it as following - from 100 to 150, then 3 times from 130 to 150 (all with extra spawns, obviously). Overall, whole ā€œrunā€ takes 110 waves. Every time, you receive 2 GUARANTEED legendaries from main chest, and those have very high chance to be ā€œpowerfulā€ ones (aka endgame sets, etc), and often, 1-2 extra legendary as well. So overall, for clearing 110 waves you get ~14 legendaries.
Farming Gladiator crucible from 1 to 100 takes 100 waves. Will you receive ~14 legendaries for that? HELL NO! You will probably receive 2-5.

Farming Crucible is really efficient ONLY when you farm it as following - 100-150 and 3x 130-150. Gladiator Crucible indeed drops a lot more legendaries (around 4-7 for each 100-150 or 130-150 runs), but enemies have much higher HP and damage, and you dont have +25% bonus to all resistances. If your build is strong enough to relatively safely farm Gladiator till 150, do it. If not, farm Challenger in just the same way!

In 1 0-150 Challenger Run I got Markovian Helmet Blueprint, Markovian Shoulders and Markovian Chest (Mythics); was pretty funny considering I read about people complaining about building sets all the time.

If you’re not using OP builds might as well do it in Challenger. I’m content with the drops I’m getting.

Well, you’ll likely never get so lucky again.

In all seriousness though pre-AoM in over 400 hours farming lvl 85 content I finished a grand total of 3 legendary sets - Harbinger, Clairvoyant, and one other I forget…also was just one piece short on Trozan and Dreeg. Having just restarted the max level farming in AoM drop rates seem better, but I still suspect it’ll be awhile until I finish my first set - let alone finish one I actually was hoping to play.

Thanks actuan and Mortal for confirming that about Challenger, I just got powerful enough to clear it w/o too much hassel and was wondering if I should either farm Challenger or try to push into Gladiator.

Considering Challenger is a LOT tougher than the campaign on ULTIMATE (like 5-10 times harder) I vote with Challenger.

I usually get 1-3 blueprints every single run, at least a handful of legendaries, and most stuff is lvl 94. I noticed when I ding 100 Challenger seemed to bump up again in difficulty (auto clear toons started dying again) but the loot seemed to bump up again too!

If I had been focusing on one toon two the last two years I’d probably be farming gladiator but considering Aspirant crucible is roughly as difficult as Ultimate campaign I just don’t think gladiator is worth the pain. I have toons that can sleepwalk through Varbury (hardest non-world boss in game) and get absolutely annihilated in Gladiator. Meh.

Challenger is :D:D

As everyone said. Do challenger is fine.

If you could improve your builds from loots in challenger. I recommend you to play party Gladiator.

There’re some people keep random join multiplayer in crucible and it’s more relax and very fun to play with them. When finished you could ask for trade as well.

PS. My internet isn’t stable and were made others disconnect couple times. I feel guilty and don’t want it happen again. So I prefer random join(At least, I could stand with 200+ pings)

Cheers for the great input fellas  Just gonna keep at it and see how it goes!

That’s a great tip about looking for gladiator crucible open games. I never thought to try that :stuck_out_tongue:

Good thread, thx for the info guys

I have a question similar the the OP if you can’t consistently beat wave 150 on gladiator.

I’m assuming the bonus chest make the difference so dying on wave 150 in gladiator isn’t as good as winning wave 150 on challenger. But you still get a bonus chest if you cash in at wave 140. I know the type of chests change depending on when you cash in/die, but how much would the drop off be if you cash out at wave 140 on gladiator vs winning challenger. That is also 10 less waves to complete each time. I’m not sure if you can restart at 130 if you don’t finish 150, though. Of course it is only 10 more total waves do 4x 100-140 vs the 100-150 + 3x 130-150.
