I’m making this thread in order to ask a few questions regarding build-swapping.
My Spellbreaker has been progressing nicely so far; I’m having a blast tearing through everything with the dual wielding build I’ve figured out. Alas, there are a ton of unexplored abilities she has so far, so I figured I might change things up a bit at some point in my journey.
Thus, I was wondering if switching to a casting-focused build would be hard to achieve mid-adventure, and which weapons I should go for in order to do so.
Switching midstride is doable, but remember that you can’t refund mastery points or stat points, so it could be that you have ‘wasted’ points if you change focuses. I assume as a spellbreaker that you’re thinking of making a trozan’s build or an OFF/CT caster rather than a missile user or an aether ray build? What specific ideas do you have for the next stage?

Um, because that’s the way they like to play their games? I’ve never used a character editor to change or make a higher level one ever. I do tweak with gear from my collection, but I know other people who don’t and also level manually every time. Everyone plays differently. Doing it that way is no more “silly” than editing a toon. Each to his own as they say.
Lol so people still think in 2017 that opinions and playstyles are equal.
Srsly, a glance on Class Builds forum is enough to figure out that this game is about showcasing your character and bragging how it farms gladiator crucible. Noone interested if you levelled your character fairly or not, self found or not, with trainers or not. Moreover, if people find out you don’t farm gladiator crucible or don’t have a character that kills fabius in less than 15 seconds they’ll look down upon you like a loser you are. People telling that they play for fun are just making excuses and escaping reality, and the reality is that they just failed as GD players.
As you can see, some people have very strong opinions about using 3rd party programs (not to mention some very…interesting opinions about what constitutes a fun way to play a game and what this community exists for) but it is true that there are 3rd party options that make switching mastery points around and much beyond that. How much you want to use those tools depends on personal opinions about what makes the game fun.
Assuming no 3rd party intervention, switching class focuses is, as I said, doable but can yield some waste due to points left over from the previous build. It can also be hard to tell if the new build is better because your gear is usually not comparable right away so you’ll generally lose some ground when you switch.
Yes, people like to show off builds and yes other people like to try them out. I do with some of them, others I adapt for my own playstyle, yet others I make up myself (however bad they turn out to be :D). It’s nothing to do with playstyles being equal, it’s just how each person likes to play the game. If you want to edit your toons that’s fine, if I want to manually level mine that’s fine too.
I guess I’ll be one of your “losers” then as I don’t play Crucible as it’s not my sort of thing and I haven’t faced Fabius yet. I may be one of your “failed” players, but I’ve been enjoying the game ever since it came out in alpha back in 2013. If you consider that a “fail” then I feel sorry for you.
well there are some relics that let you dual wield as non blader … These builds can go Crazy ;D just loved my dual warpfires as a sorc but ok i enjoyed it right and the dragon is right … its all about facing the math and get a good Strong char … blast the rules Ey ??? but for me and my friends i like also to play with new people revealing some secrets since i play anyway too much .
