Why are modern developers so afraid to go the ‘Diablo 1-2’ way where character and inventory menus filled the entire screen when opened? (at least in vertical size).
My everyday monitor resolution is 12801024. Now in Grim Dawn I’m forced to play in 1024768 just because it is the only resolution when character and inventory menus are comfortable to look at and to trifle with my stats and items.
I personally have nothing wrong against 1024768 (I play a lot of good old games where 1024768 is the highest option). But rummaging about your inventory and at the character screen is at least the half of a fun while playing ARPGs. And when I switch into 1280*1024 to have a better overall graphics and see this small window at the center of the screen, with all these tiny little swords, axes, pistols and such, I sincerely begin to lose the appetite to tinkering at it.
Whence came this trend to leave a part of game world visible when opening these menus? Just to see an approaching monster in time while you’re inspecting you bag? Damn, just kill everything around, then get your ass to some safe nook and sort out your treasures as long as you like. Just as in real life.
The same can be said about merchants interface. In 1280*1024 it’s too small to have fun with choosing, comparing and buying stuff.
