With the new expansion/DLC that’s recently come out for Grim Dawn I decided it was time to take the plunge into what will probably be my newest obsession.
I’m a long time player of Path of Exile (since closed beta) and before that I played Diablo 2, Diablo 3 and Titan Quest and Titan Quest: immortal Throne.
I’d like to ask you guys to choose a build for me as a first time Grim Dawn player, but I’d like to make a couple requests. I’d like the build to be able to go all the way to the hardest difficulty and farm gear for other builds efficiently. It would also ideally be a build that didn’t rely too much on specific rare pieces of gear to function - I can always do those builds later once I have gear stockpiled.
But don’t worry! It is hard to break a charakter! With the expansion everything is respacable (except masteries). Also nearly all masteries have some nice synergies (of which some might be gear dependent actually). I recommend you start with whatever appears cool to you and find your style. Then, if you want to be sure, you can come back and ask for a second mastery. And don’t forget to invest in that mastery bar.
If you like melee, try one of the Witchblade or Commando sword & board faceroll builds (build compendium is full of 'em).
If you like magic and blowing stuff up, Conjurer vitality casters are perennial favourites.
And, if you like sipping on a Martini and reading a book while playing, search for some of the Pokemon-master summoner builds. Or the new Skelliemancer build that’s on the forum atm, I’m experimenting with it and it’s a pure lolocopter ride.

I haven’t played a lot at end-game, but I’ve beaten the normal game at least once. I really enjoyed playing a dual-pistol build and it won’t rely on any specific gear. There are plenty of ways to boost your damage, you can focus on different damage types, and there are many classes you can work with. My highest level is Demolitionist + Arcanist and pretty strong. The new class Inquisitor also supports this type of build so you have even more options.

I have followed the build you linked in the thread and am having a blast. It was, as you thought, exactly what I needed. I am currently level 17 and about to kill the Warden.
