This should be called clipping, if my understanding is correct.
So I tried to shortcut my way through corners and stuff, which occasionally led me to predicaments, this is one of them. The X is the proximity of where I aimed with Displacement, and the dashed line is where I land (you can see a portal there.)
I tried this multiple times and almost always able to replicate it.
