Monster Infrequent - Compelled Wraith: added 30% Burn/Vitality Decay Duration, removed Fire dealt as Vitality
So much for playing anything other than pets sub-94 …
dead build dead game etc etc.
So, I may be overlooking something, but has anyone got a way to play / level defiler OTHER than pets now? conversion options look nonexistent.

You have point.Compelled wrath is dropping in earlier levels and Defiler is pita for leveling.All the synergy,they have is based on end game conversion items.
well, it’s basically the following situation: Compelled wraith gives 20-30% conversion starting from level 25. Lunal’Vagoth gives 40-60% at level 40+. This is perfect, since about level 40-50 is where secondary mastery and conversion needs to get into the picture, and then finally the solael conversion mace gives another 20-30, again necessary if you didn’t get top tier conversion rolls on your two MIs.
So the patch will take defiler from being viable at all levels to being semi-viable at 84 or higher, and only “viable” with endgame gear.
Max Fire Strike + Explosive Strike + Searing Might for 152% weapon damage + 20% total damage modified and a good Fleshwarped Carbine for pure Aether will be more than good enough for Normal/Elite before then.
that sort-of makes sense, and I concede that it might just be enough, and I’m interested in trying it, but I’m trying to play a Vit BWC+RE thing as well.
Defiler levels fine without the compelled wraith conversion.
If you are having trouble with leveling a defiler, feel free to post a grimtools/calc so people can make suggestions to help.
Both Leafmane Trophy and Lunal’valgoth’s Girdle are suitable for leveling vit defilers.
By using the Leafmane Trophy you would theoretically lose the RR from compelled wraith you are asking for, but that RR was never necessary to successfully level.
Before hitting AoM in veteran/normal you can trivially level successfully with just a single mastery. For those starting characters in ultimate, you probably could already have twink gear for each gearing stage while leveling 
You can also make a successful vitality defiler for endgame without this conversion.
umm, leafmane trophy is elemental->vitality which last time I asked is multiplicative with fire->vitality so it won’t be nearly as good in the 84+ (aka hardest) stage of leveling. Plus, I happen to want a BwC and RE vitality defiler.
Grimtools tomorrow or so. I level for the most part untwinked (just mandates and a mark of the traveler) and it’ll take me a while to get there.
Endgame was never in doubt, gdstashers wont even notice the difference because rarity is just a color to them and there are plenty of legendaries givimg conversion either way…
On average the total conversion you would get will from belt + leafmane vs. current patch compelled wraith + belt is going to wind up being fairly similar. You can verify that for yourself.
The main thing you will lose is the 8% vit RR which is hardly a big deal at all while leveling.
I am not personally a fan of the way [ele -> X] and [ele_subtype -> X] conversion currently interacts and would like to see it changed.
However this change is hardly cause for hysteria. In fact it is an improvement for fire bwc/re defiler in a general gearing sense.
Just a took a look at it and it makes no sense for the conversion to be there. It has -15% fire RR Siphon Souls, meaning Fire Defiler gets RR from both masteries, but then the conversion has vitality eat a portion of the fire damage.
Without conversion both sides can benefit from this MI, unlike with the conversion where vitality is clearly the one benefiting here.
it is an improvement in the endgame for fire, yes, with blazeheart, blazeseer and/or darkblaze you can probably get something out of it before blightlord.
For vitality, getting the conversion means you won’t get compelled wraith, and lose the rr AND skill bonuses as well, not a good point to be in if you want to combine siphon, RE and bwc. Even if it makes no sense for that conversion, it should be somewhere else within the same rarity and level range.
