Component inventory tabs

Hello to all,

I really like Grim Dawn so far but one thing that is very annoying is how fast your inventory is cluttered with lots of different components. It is easily possible to block the entire main inventory tab with this clutter and throwing it into the stash is no good solution since it will take 1-2 hours to have the same mess again. As someone who likes to keep his inventory clean this has been bothering me.

I would like to see a dedicated inventory tab where all the components are deposited by default. Like an additional backpack that is only used for components.

Path of Exile had a similar problem with their lots of different currencies and solved it in a similar manner:

Maybe not additional storage, but if only they’d auto-merge on pickup after auto-pickup…

It’s fine the way it is, you just need to take fifteen seconds out of your day and just organize your stash. It’s not that difficult.

It shows some improvement from the first to the second screenshot but I don´t agree with you that the current system is fine.

First I tried to stash away components that I don´t need but realized that you pick up new ones in no time and the clutter is back again. On top, it adds the issue that you have to go back and forth between smith and stash to pick up components for crafting.

Then I tried to put all components in one of the backpack tabs but when you push the button to put them together manually the game will put the completed ones back again into the main inventory. So the situation became even worse since the clutter spread rapidly through different inventory tabs.

Speaking of backpack tabs, an option to assign specific item types to a backpack so they will go there automatically when you pick up an item of that type, that would be great. E.g. assign green quality or better amulets to a backpack and the game will automatically place new ones in this backpack when you pick up a new one.

Whenever I go to a smith for some crafting, the components in my stash are automatically detected and used. There is no need to transfer them in to your inventory in order to use them in crafting.

On the other hand, if I need them for a shrine, they have to be in my inventory. The shrines do not recognize anything in my stash.

crafting uses the components from your stash, no need to go back and forth

I drop them all in one shared tab and combine them there, works without any issues

I generally think that having specific tabs for specific items is an awful idea as I will invariable want that space for something else. So I am against a bag specifically for components. Nothing beats the flexibility of being able to store anything  If we have too little space, give us more universally usable space, not a bag for one item type only

If you could optionally limit a bag based on certain criteria if your choosing, that is ok though

I use one transfer stash tab to organize my components:

Ignore the mace and consumables.

Uncompleted components go on top. Common before uncommon. Completed components go on the bottom. Whenever you get components in your inventory, first merge them in your inventory, then shift click them all into this tab, then merge them in the tab. You may need to move a few around if they’re a bit out of place or if it decided to complete a component in the wrong section, but it’s very easy to manage.

Side note: people having stuff in their /inventory/ as storage makes me cringe… that’s just not a good sign. This game really needs a bigger stash.

I never thought about using a transfer tab for components rather than my main inventory. It would make combining all my different character’s components so much easier and effectively quadruple the amount I have. Then again, at the rate I find and collect Epic and Legendary items, all four tabs usually fill up in a single session.

Do the blacksmiths detect components in your transfer tabs like your normal stash?

Yes

10chars

My transfer stash is something like this:

  1. Leveling gear that is epic for when I hit 25. Until then I use what I find.
  2. Usable epic jewelry and then all relics in alphabetical order by type
  3. Writs and Warrants
  4. Components that are completed

I plan on reorganizing this soon and sticking all components in tab four.

I have separate shared stashes organized by categories with about 20 different stashes. I do not have mules. I swap stashes around and save over them as I remove or add to them. Have I accidentally duped items? Yes. I throw them on the ground when I realize this.

The shared stash should be much bigger. I find it amazing that the stash space is so limited when it is stored on your computer. I know people have made stash add-ons for the game but I have not bothered with it as I play windowed with two monitors and can have folders open for quick swapping.

Yeah, I do file manipulation for my stashes, as well. I need to come up with a different organization scheme, though. :stuck_out_tongue: A lot of the time I just chuck stuff into uncategorized stashes until I want to come back to them later, but the initial transfer stash is really small which creates issues even trying to compare all your items.

DII’s PlugY stash was probably the best format I’ve seen. It’s large, free form, and all in one place, instead of having to switch out vaults all day. But that kind of thing requires UI access and I don’t know if we’ll be getting that.

I have stash tabs labeled:

Epic Weapons
Legendary Bows and Guns
Epic Chests
Epic Legs
Legendary Weapons
Legendary Armor
Blueprints
And more

I finally started throwing all Empowered things into one stash and just calling it Empowered 1, 2 and so on.

I’ll have to start doing something similar since categorizing by level just doesn’t work.

One of the issues is that I still have a lot of yellow/green gear I like sharing which is a lot harder to categorize and there’s a lot more of it.

Why don’t you just eat the blueprints? I believe they’re all cross-characters.

So then what do I use my stash for if not to be filled with components? I don’t know if I could handle going to my stash and seeing it 95% empty.

Your personal stash? The only thing I store there is non-transferable items, such as quest items and special crafting materials.

I’m HC so if I die my stash goes with me, I’m not putting anything of value in there. :stuck_out_tongue:

An exclusive component stash tab that stacks infinitely, with pre-defined slots for incomplete components and next to it the completed stacks, and with all in-game components slots greyed out so you can see how many you acquired would be ideal.

Yeah, I don’t see any drawbacks to that…

…what about epics and legendaries collectible sections, then? That would probably solve a lot of peoples’ stash problems all by itself.
