Conclusions on Farming Locations / Methods

[EDIT]: THE SHRINE OF THE FORGOTTEN GOD TROVE HAS BEEN REMOVED, AND SO THE TROVE DATA IS OUT OF DATE :(. THIS THREAD WAS MADE IN v1.0.0.3, AND DROP RATES HAVE NOW CHANGED.

Hello all,

I’ve now completed 235 recorded runs (100 Shrine of the Forgotten God, 60 Fabius and 75 Twin Falls Hive) and I’m going to summarise my data here, along with drawing some conclusions.

First of all, here are the links to the previous threads:

OUT OF DATE
Shrine of the Forgotten God: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37943
Fabius: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38172

And here is the information / data from the Twin Falls Hive runs:

[spoiler]- All of my runs are conducted at level 85, in Ultimate, using my self-found Firestrike Saboteur. The build details are listed below:My skills and Devotions without + skills: https://grimcalc.com/build/ZYOQCH
With + skills: https://grimcalc.com/build/E6KHWm
Screenshot of stats (with permanent buffs and Pneumatic Burst):

- During a run, I will pick up all rares, epics and legendaries, all components and all Royal Jelly.

  • A run consists of spawning at Devil’s Crossing -> port to Twin Falls -> Rush to Hive (hang left, circle around the tower, down road, then right), killing heroes on the way, then exit and start again.
  • Run through hive, killing the Queen and making sure it has been fully explored so that all heroes have been found and killed.
  • Every 5 runs, I exit to desktop, in the off chance that resetting the game seed actually affects RNG.

The raw data:

Summarising all of the data I have collected so far:

The data for the Shrine of the Forgotten God is now out of date.

Shrine of the Forgotten God (both with and without a trip to the Tyrant’s Hold Blacksmith; 5/93 of the rare materials were Manticore Eyes):

Fabius:

Twin Falls Hive:

How the data works:

  • Per run is simply the mean number of each item per run (e.g. mean number of heroes, epics, legendaries, etc.)
  • Per hour/minute is the mean number of each item one can expect per hour/minute.
  • Per legendary is the mean number of items you can expect per legendary, e.g. you will kill on average 39.6 heroes/bosses for each legendary when running Twin Falls Hive.
  • Per hero/boss is the mean number of items you can expect per hero/boss you kill (only applicable to Twin Falls Hive).

Conclusions from the data:

  • The best place to farm for legendaries is the Shrine of the Forgotten God, provided you turn the rare materials into legendaries in Tyrant’s Hold. This does also allow you to choose what kind of item you want, and there is sufficient iron that you can on average convert all of the materials you have into a single type, in order to super-farm that particular type of legendary.
  • However, since you need dynamite for the Shrine runs, and the time taken to acquire dynamite is NOT factored in, this affects the outcome.
  • The next best option is the farm Fabius - but only just. Fabius and Twin Falls are fairly matched in their legendary per hour rates.
  • Epics from Fabius and Shrine are fairly matched (22.00 and 19.95 per hour, respectively), whereas the rate from Twin Falls is much higher (37.46). If you want Epics as well as Legendaries, farm Twin Falls!
  • Twin Falls dropped 0 blueprints. This may be because I learn all blueprints once they drop, but I am quite certain there are some still out there. In any case, Twin Falls is not good for blueprints.
  • Iron per hour is much higher from Shrine than the other two options, even if you convert rares into legendaries.

On general farming:

  • The chance for a legendary to drop per hero/boss is approximately 1/40 from my results. If each hero takes 10 seconds to take down and loot, then it will take 6 2/3 minutes of killing heroes for a legendary to drop. This means that it is statistically a good thing to kill heroes on the way to a run compared with just running past to get to Fabius / Trove faster.
  • As far as I can see, no other runs will be more efficient than these 3 for what they do (although I cannot speak for BoC and SoT as I do not know how the drop rates scale). The reason for this is as follows:
  • The run to Twin Falls Hive has most likely the highest hero density in the game for the shortest time to get there - it’s 18 seconds per hero, and that’s including kill time.
  • Shrine of the Forgotten God runs are the fastest in terms of time to Trove, and is always in the same place.
  • Fabius is the most easily farmable Nemesis (excluding Kymon’s and Death’s Vigil, but they have lower drop rates), so farming Fabius is more efficient than Moos or otherwise.

For example, some people have said that they, after running the Twin Falls Hive, will run around the Arkovian Undercity area to see if Moos has spawned there. This is inefficient, as Moos will often not be there and so the time is wasted. If you added up all the time taken to look around there and kill Moos, it’d probably be less than just doing a separate Fabius run instead.

Despite that, it’s probably more enjoyable to run more than the same 2 minutes of content over and over :stuck_out_tongue:

Any feedback to my data / conclusions would be appreciated

Oh, and the wasps certainly aren’t biased to a certain set or anything… (these items are already shown once in pictures above)

I love you… r work on these runs and recording it. Guess i’ll try twin falls run since i’ve never done it before. At least not repeatedly.
Hats off to you. These are lovely data.

Wow, awesome work!!! Thanks for taking the time to collect all the data!

 Now, you need to scrap a lot of duplicate/low demand epics to see how many rare crafting mats you get that you can turn in for legendries was well! (said with tongue in check)

I see some twin falls runs in my future…especially as a change of pace from the shrine runs…

Don’t forget another extra bonus to turning in mats besides picking type of legendary you get, is the small DA/OA or HP regen (or whatever his three are) from blacksmith bonus… I’m using a nice Golemborn grieve with a little (only 12) extra OA on them…

For those that don’t like resetting every two minutes should do twin falls AND the shrine, then they can double their time before resetting!

Thanks again!

I know you said this tongue in cheek, but the most depressing thing of all this is that I never dismantle/sell epics. I keep every single one… I just can’t help myself :frowning: Furthermore, I don’t use any mods to help with storage… I literally have over 20 of some epics that I never use, but I just can’t make myself get rid of them

You’re welcome! I usually find farming boring, but having a purpose and also knowing that I’ll benefit the community with my results has made it all the more doable

You meant “Legendaries”, maybe?

Wow, how many mules do you have… How do you even find things… I hate messing with mules so did get an inventory management tool… Soooo much easier! I have stopped scrapping as much once I got the tool…and saving the dynamite for shrine runs…

No, I did indeed mean Epics, although I probably should delete the second mention of Epics in that sentence for it to make more sense. Thanks for picking up on this, I’ve reworded the sentence to make it easier to understand.

Every character that I stop playing on becomes a mule. I rarely play characters past veteran because I get bored or I get too excited for a new combination, so even though I have slightly over 400 hours played, my Firestrike Saboteur is my only level 85, with one character at 75, and the rest just at the end of Veteran. This is how I manage my storage:

Wow thanks a lot for taking the time for doing all this! Much appreciated.

Thanks a lot for this nice work :)

Wy don’t you just use GD Stash and get rid of all this mules?

Awesome work!

Have you tested SOT Vs Undersity Vs BOC?

Does dismantling extra epics or emp epic worth the tnt cost?

I guess I’m a bit of a traditionalist… I was the same on TQ, just less organised  It’s also the irrational fear of losing something if the program were to malfunction - it’s not likely, but then, it is an irrational fear after all :stuck_out_tongue:

I have only really run the listed runs as SoT, BoC, and, to a lesser extent, Undercity, take a lot longer - my first and only BoC took around 30 minutes, although I was clearing all content and being really careful. My build just isn’t that good at surviving against those types of enemies, it’s a lot better at DPSing in safe environments. And besides, my build isn’t complete yet, so these easier runs are good.

If anyone could do a series of recorded BoCs or SoTs, I’d appreciate the opportunity to see the data!

TNT, in my opinion, is an abundance. I’ve crafted loads before (for my Troves), and I have a further 124 on me from farming Cronley’s / Fabius. As far as I am aware, there is a chance for a rare material to be made, so perhaps it is worth it, perhaps not, but if you need lots of scrap and components, I’d say yes.

To be quite honest, however, I’ve only ever dismantled 3 epics in over 400 hours of playtime, so my opinion on the matter should not be relied upon

Probably not for established players. When I was a new player (well still pretty new compared to most on the forums…) it helped me get some rare components and crafting mats. Now that I have a lv 85 guy and several aspiring alts I seem to have enough components and such.

I would scrap them in the past mostly because I don’t like messing with mules and was running out of inventory space. The iron bits from selling them didn’t seem make a big difference and getting a brain/blood/heart would make me happy. I wasn’t running shrine runs yet needing the dynamite. Plus I was using the scrap to try to get some deceit upgrades as it was my first character…which also lead to my lack of knowledge for knowing what to keep for some future alts.

But now I have the GD Item assist and it makes the inventory management soooooo much easier!

I get that! I try to be that way and probably won’t do any other mods… Just inventory management is my by far my most hated thing in any game!! Especially ones dealing with collecting loot… I’m typically a OCD hoarder… I like to keep everything “just incase I need it” but if it isn’t organized it drives me nuts!! I’m lazy too…so putting a spread sheet together like you’ve created is too much work for me.
