With the somewhat ‘primitive’ descriptions Grim Dawn has on skills I’m a little confused about how Onslaught really works. I started a Berserker/Inquisitor combo but I don’t understand what really classifies as Activated Cooldown Attack.
These following skills have a skill recharge but not all seem to work.
Stormbox of Elgoloth - Not buffed by stacks. Rune of Kalastor/Hagarrad - Buffed by stacks. Flames of Ignaffar - Not buffed by stacks. I guess although it has a recharge component, hold skills are excluded? Horn of Gandarr - Buffed by stacks.
Of the above I would think that Stormbox of Elgoloth should work? I don’t see why not.
Initially when I only tested Stormbox in my first levels I got under the impression that Activated Attack Skills can only be skills that have a %Main/Offhand component in them and are otherwise spell skills, but the rune skills are disproving this.
The active buff description is also different from the orange text on the skill. Skill tree: Your next activated cooldown attack will consume all stacks to deal additional damage. Buff icon: % Additional damage to the next offensive Cooldown Ability.
Offensive Cooldown Ability sounds like any offensive skill with a recharge component? It is at least better describing what it should affect over activated Cooldown Attack…
Is the Stormbox case a bug perhaps? Or how would I otherwise know which skills are compatible also from other classes that I may want to try out with Onslaught (without trying on a target dummy).
gandarr is an attack and it works with onslaught (template: skill_attackradius to be exact). correct about stormbox though. also flames of iggy could just not describe the frequency of damage ticks as “0.3 second skill recharge”. i’d say the confusion is warranted.
So definitely the channeling skill confusion seems to come from the fact that it’s stated recharge is actually the tick rate of the channeling rather than between cast cooldown? Meaning it’s not a cooldown skill?
So the Stormbox is a debuff because it has a duration component? Is any skill that does damage but has a duration counting as debuff rather than an offensive/attack ability?
I would hope that whenever Grim Dawn 2 comes around they are more verbose about differences in-game like using tagging systems similar to PoE/Diablo and also not multiple wordings of the same thing.
Yeah I’ve always found GD’s skill descriptions to be pretty terrible. Too flavorful and full of vague/inconsistent language, not enough actual info. Some skills straight up lie to the player too
