Crafting Completion Bonus Rant

Are doing my head in… Things like a 10% chance to roll +skills you use on a relic or the always useful increases armor by 7% from Angrim. This design is extremely frustrating to legit players. I can’t think of a single person who wouldn’t want 7% armor or +2 more skill points, the items become significantly weaker without these rolls, then you need to roll well… Yet as crafting requirements are high and it takes dozens of hours of farming per craft on some things. Meaning your probably only going to make one or two legitimately. You’re not going to have these important rolls at all unless extremely lucky.

What can be done about this For people who don’t save scum craft and aren’t lucky? Edit. Many options here, E.G You get the materials to make an Eye Of the Storm Relic, upon crafting one you get an option to keep the roll or reroll it upto say 5 times. On the 5th roll it goes to your inventory regardless. Another option would be a new crafting option for smiths for rerolling past crafts at a cost.

Why even have these bonuses? Another thing is high end components also taking dozens of hours per craft in some cases. Then there’s double rare MI’s and crafts… Also needing specific affix/suffix, Now we’re in lottery ticket territory, that is ludicrous! Why design it this way? Should be purples BiS for every slot imo, which means more resists/health on pants/boots for the most part, including special resists like stun.

This game could be so great with some tweaks for legit play. ATM its like oldschool asian MMO grindy for crafting. Time spent playing to reward earned ratio is awful thanks to these issues. No wonder most people it seems just save scum craft… Stuff spending hours farming only to craft a bad roll… :furious:

You can get skill bonuses as completion bonuses? When did that happen?

Getting the perfect completion bonus really only matters to those who min/max and I can’t recall very many min/maxers who complain about the farming grind. Either GD Stash the materials and craft away or learn to live with the fact that you’re not dedicated enough to min/max.

Personally, if I need to craft something and I have spare materials, I’ll craft a few until I get a good roll, but if it’s something where crafting mats are in short supply, I’ll craft one and use that. So long as you have a half-decent build, you don’t need perfect rolls on your gear to survive through the game.

Been a long time thing. Relics can roll random + skills or random bonuses. You might have noticed some.

At any rate, I don’t think grimtools has them at the moment but gracefuldusk does.

Edit: Mixed completion bonuses up with something else.

Was gonna say that I’d never gotten skill bonuses as completion bonuses before out of all the craft rolls I had made on relics. Some minor damage bonuses I think, but never a skill bonus.

It depends on the relic. Some of them only roll random bonuses like % damage bonuses or % physique/cunning/spirit or resistances. Some of them roll preset couples of +1 to 2 skills of mastery.

Oh, shit, you’re right. I thought I had crafted an Oleron’s Wrath. I know I crafted a Scourge and all its component relics.

EDIT: Not Scourge, Oblivion. Fuck. All I could remember was “one word, chaos” and Scourge is definitely not that.

That’s probably because they’ve all resorted to using GDstash or save scum crafting…

I have a 100% legit account which i always dread crafting anything, and a separate account that used a self rule where If i can craft an item like eye of the storm, I can keep crafting it via save scum until I get the properties I need. What I don’t understand, is why has this had no tweaks since I last played Grim Dawn back in B31, I remember having the exact issue with Grim Dawn back then… Who on earth farms for dozens of hours to craft a single high end relic over and over for a 10% chance to roll +2 skills?

Either way I’m someone who hates cheating so even If i feel the self rule is justified in my mind I know its just cheating which saps the fun out of the game. Yet my legit account has the problem of a crafting system seemingly designed to punish you over and over for playing legitimately… Which is also very unfun. I’m a stat whore/min maxer for sure, but also don’t find dozens of hours of grinding is justified for a 10% chance to roll +2skills, surely Crate can see this is unreasonable? Games are meant to be fun.

What would happen if players were allowed to choose the completion bonus, anyway? Would it imbalance anything? Would it mess up anything? Originally I had been chewing on this in regards to BoM bonuses, but was unsure whether THAT would be bad or not.

I think it would be less annoying if the +skills offered as completion bonuses weren’t uniformly shit 90% of the time and actually supported various sorts of builds on their own. For instance, one craft of Eye of the Storm might give +skills to Raging Tempest and Storm Totem while another, instead, could do Stormcaller’s Pact and Savagery/Primal Strike. That way even if you craft a relic with bonuses shoddy for your current build, it would be amazing for some other build.

As it stands, +skills are really just a mishmash of random skill modifiers for skills that would rarely be used together.
