Crashing mid game every 10-40 mins - V7.6 build 9556053

The game crashes constantly. This only started happening when I got stuck into tier 3. I have reduced graphics settings to no avail, but my PC is a beast so it shouldn’t struggle. There is no error screen, it just freezes for a second or two then the app closes. Its not at the same time or action or during a save / autosave. The more I play the more frequently it occurs.

I have:
disabled overlays
reduced graphics settings
stopped all 3rd party tools
Tried 3rd party tools!
I do not use mods / never have
I have run it will all other apps closed

Hi Alec,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues. Can you go to this directory:

C:\Users\alec\AppData\Local\Temp\Crate Entertainment\Farthest Frontier\Crashes

… and zip up the latest few directories and attach them here?

Thanks.

Same here. The game keeps crashing.

As with the OP, I have a “mini” monster of a PC

Warm regards,

Hi Yewnos,

Interestingly, you don’t seem to be crashing in graphics driver code (which is the vast majority of crashes that are reported). Can you attach your DxDiag.txt? You can generate that by running the dxdiag app:

Thanks.

Certainly… Attached. DxDiag.txt (77 KB)

Your machine does look within spec. Could you try upgrading graphics drivers just to see if that somehow makes a difference? It appears that your drivers are:

Thanks.

Still crashes… Added last 2 crashes with/on updated gfx-drivers.

Hello Alec_Sharratt and Yewnos,

Sorry for the delay. Both of your logs still indicate graphics crashes. For a long time, we have been stuck on a somewhat outdated version of Unity (the game engine used for Farthest Frontier). However, Unity has recently fixed an issue and we have discovered a work-around for another issue that was preventing us from upgrading. We’ve reported that work-around to Unity and hope they will address it on their end in the (near?) future. Since both of you are crashing in graphics code, we don’t have the ability to debug/fix those issues (Unity calls those low-level graphics calls). However, I have built a test version that is using the most recent version of Unity and have uploaded it to our “Debug” branch on Steam. If you want to try it out to see if it helps alleviate some of your crashes, I would be interested to hear the results. You can download the Debug version by doing the following:

Right-click on Farthest Frontier in your Steam library and select, “Properties…”:

Select, “BETAS” and type enter “debugme01945” for the beta access code, and then click the “Check Code” button:

Finally, click on the dropdown menu and select the Debug branch:

You should see the Debug version of FF downloading:

When you are done testing, you will probably want to go back and set the branch to “None” so you will get updates to FF as we release them.

I am installing now and will let you know. I really appreciate your help.

That seemed to resolve the problem for a while, but now I am at tier 3 and it crashes every 5 mins. Its starts at once in 1.5 hours, then slowly crashes more and more until its unplayable. It now takes longer to load the game than I get to play it before it crashes. I have attached the last few in the attached zip.

Bah, sorry to hear that. Those folders in your Crashes.zip are strangely empty, too. Maybe you can check and resend?

Hey, weirdly none of the last 28 crash folders have anything in them. This is the last one that did, I think this was prior to the fix you provided.
