Crucible DLC - I love it - what is your opinion?

Good day!

I got the game like 2 months ago, but started seriously playing it 4 days ago. (used to play World of Tanks since 2012, but finally got sick of it and rage-uninstalled it)

Used to play a lot of Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament, so I love these arena-ish games, and 2 days ago I got the Crucible DLC and played it, and oh my God it’s super awesome, it’s like a totally different game, thrown in an arena where you fight endless waves, I love it.

I am currently level 25, I killed that Krieg guy in the Adventure/Story mode, and then I tried the Crucible. I have better drops in the Crucible, I got some purple objects, something like a brain and another one something like a yellow honey made by bees, have no clue what they do. I also have some loot that are components, but some other color then what you get in the Story mode, something like a Devil Touched Ammo.

Bought a couple of Devotion points, which I spent on some star figures.

Oh man I love this Crucible arena, I would love to see a whole new game that only focuses on this endless arena game-style. It reminds me of Tetris or those Gems crushing games, which you can play over and over again without getting bored.

What is your opinion on the Crucible DLC? Please feel free to share your experience.

Greetings!

Had the game for a good long while. Got the crucible ASAP. Then realized it was strictly no mods allowed. Played it once on the lowest difficulty, but given a choice between acess to a mod or acess to crucible mod wins every time.

I give it 1 star of 5. Would not buy again nor recommend.

nice addition to the game. Still at 5 bucks it’s a good way to throw money at the devs who have worked hard to bring us this game!

I have earned most of my legendaries from farming crucibles. great mode and I am pretty sure it will only get better as we approach the first expansion!

I have enjoyed it in small doses. I found at low levels it was a great way to gain an early edge in the story mode. My newest character, I killed the first quest and then went to crucible till around level 28. I tried going back around level 30 and found the exp much slower.

I will make another return to crucible to try and get some better gear, possible after I finish the story in veteran.

All in all for $5, worth it. 3.5/5 stars, as many improvements could make things even better.

The crucible is above all a very useful tool. As a playing mode it’s mildly interesting but as a tool it’s superb and here’s why:

  1. Fast leveling for startup characters
  2. Max out your devotion on Normal/Veteran mode
  3. By far the most time efficient and reliable way of farming legendaries, which makes nemesis farming obsolete.

On the whole, I’d give it a 4.5/5.
I’d also like to reiterate PrinceXavieR’s point that it’s a great way to show your support for the team that made this awesome game.

I think the Arena is a nice addition and a good way to test one’s character limits and to duke it out in a frenzy bloodbath to alternate from the more easy-going adventure mode. And a nice alternative to goodies hunting if that’s your thing.

  • It could use to be more flashy to match the frenzy combat, akin to an arcade game, with combos, big numbers, colorful text, fancy voice acting when you shut down a boss, and what not. It’s a bit too tame and impersonal right now.

  • The 4 maps seems unbalanced both in direction and design, some are just rough empty open fields, while the sand map for example has a lot more going for it. Might be intentional to favor different classes, but the work put into those seems uneven.

  • Some monsters still sit in the spawning zones…

  • Maybe a personal issue, but waves 100-150 are a laggy sh!t show for me, not very enjoyable

All in all, I won’t play it much, the atmosphere is bit lacking and the latter waves make it tedious for me, but I could see myself killing a few hours here now and then.

I like it. I’m a little annoyed that many of the early waves have very little variance in them, and Lokarr’s mouth needs some duct tape, but the gameplay is really fun. Especially in groups; if you don’t lag out, doing 4-player Gladiator is one of the most entertaining things ever.

my only complaint is that we’re denied of kicking Lokar’s butt at the end of the final wave. Putting an end to his loud mouth for good! That would have been epic!

He does raise the question about his identity.

He mentioned Korvaak and Ulzuin. Seems like he’s been there.

Either he’s a human like Uroboruuk, an Ascendant or some being from another world. Or maybe a Primordial

It’s actually a pretty nice addition. I enjoy such modes as well, and i like the Atmosphere of Crucible, but there is one thing i actually dislike about Crucible. That they didn’t put it into the World, and is an extra Mode. I mean, they still could let you use it as an extra Mode, but i would love to meet/run into this crucible thing also within the World so i don’t have to change every time the modes when i simply want to enjoy the Campaign and than swap over to crucible and vica versa. Maybe even add an big Quest-Serie’s with Story/Lore…

After going through it a few times my opinion is that it’s best played a group. Not because of the hard content but because it’s fun that way.

For an end game character waves 1-100 are a bore and it’s a shame.

120-150 is the best part:)

I hit it up occasionally, but I’d never put a ring on it.

My PB Spellbreaker was demolished at only wave 45 in Gladiator mode…I’m truly humbled…the chain stuns are crazy!

Once you unlock it you can start directly at wave 100 with extra spawns. Then you can start again at wave 130 three more times before going back to 100. The crucible is easily the fastest way to farm legendaries and Nemesis MI’s.

The only reason I’m not in there all day is because of farming faction rep. Just manage your tributes properly and hope the RNG gods cooperate.

Crucible is great to push your character to his limits and beyond. If you’re experienced player and play a strong build, then main campain will be too easy for you. Crucible provides challenge even for the toughest characters, equiped in BiS gear, and sometimes, then they may RIP, if careless. Crucible also provides appropriate reward for that challenge, it drops far better loot than narmal campain farming (of course, if your character is strong enough).
I like challenge, especially when it’s rewarded appropriately. That’s why i like Crucible, too.

What experience do you guys have regarding Legendary drops in the Crucible?

I read on a thread that people had Legendary drops at the end of the 150th wave. Is at least one Legendary drop guaranteed at the end of the 150th wave? How about finishing the 150th wave on the lowest difficulty, does it guarantee a Legendary drop?

It does guarantee 1 legendary, if you have the latest patch. Usually, it drops more than 1.

Finishing aspirant wave 150 produces 1-4 legendaries. Starting at level 100 it takes about 20 minutes to finish it. The 3 following waves 130-150 take about 35 minutes combined with each 150 dropping another 1-4 legendaries. That’s an average of 10 legendaries an hour.

On higher difficulties it’s slower but the drops are more abundant.

Don’t know where you got that. Yes, it was no modding before its release iirc, but I’ve seen at least 2 mods down in the modding section for the Crucible and there may be more.

Can’t say I’m a fan of the Crucible. I find it repetitious doing wave after wave like that. But it was interesting to try it out as I hadn’t played that sort of thing before. Might go back to it when I get some higher level toons to play in there.
