I seem to recall there being a thread/guide about damage conversion but I can’t find it!!! Reckon I must have a browser issue because no matter what I search for it pulls back the same results (Yes, I cleared cache).
Anyway, if someone can link the threat that would be great.
Specifically, what I’m looking to find out is whether you continue to build the damage type you are converting to or the damage you are converting from. Or does it make any difference.
To illustrate:
Allagast’s Arcane Net has 100% conversion of Lightning to Aether (for Lightning Tether). I’m therefore assuming that %lightning damage from gear will affect LT and then get converted to Aether. I’ve also made an assumption that %Aether damage from gear would not count…but I’m not absolutely certain.
-For Lightning converted to Aether, you would want % Aether damage from gear. % Lightning would generally do nothing (unless it were part of a skill modifier like Lightning Tether. Other examples are Fighting Form and Disintergration).
-Worth mentioning as well but Allagast’s Arcane Net’s conversion does not effect Lightning Tether I believe. There’s a bit of highlighted text at the end of the transmuter’s flavour text that states that the tether remains electrified which is meant to tip you off on this.
Thanks, that’s interesting. So if I was to get Siphon Souls with Sear Souls it would be a good synergy in respect of stacking %aether damage from gear.
I did read the bit at the end of the spell description but had presumed it was referring to the ‘electrocute’ component of the spell. Can anyone confirm the mechanics?
Conversion follows the order “Base damage -> skill modifiers -> skill converters-> item converters -> items/buffs/auras etc”
Let’s look at an example. Say you deal 100 flat physical damage and are using fire strike, which increases physical by, say, 25% (for easy math) and gives 10 flat fire damage. Then you equip an item with 100% physical to fire and +50% fire damage and +50% physical damage.
You start with 100 physical, 10 fire. Skill modifiers take effect and you receive +25% physical from fire strike. 1001.25=125 so you have 125 physical damage and 10 fire. Next would be skill converters, but fire strike does not include any skill converters so we skip this step. Then your item conversion kicks in, converting your 125 physical to fire, resulting in 135 fire damage and 0 physical. Then your buffs, items, etc come into play and you get another 50% fire damage so your total becomes 1351.5=202.5 fire damage. The 50% physical damage boost from the item is wasted.
The mechanics of the aether converter for the storm box is that all flat lightning damage from the initial cast is converted to aether. Electrocute from the initial cast remains electrocute because there is no aether DoT, and all damage from the lightning tether remains lightning/electrocute. I’ve only used the skill in one build but that was how it seemed to work when I was using it.
I got confused by AAN; “The tether remains electrified”. Specifically the use of the word ‘electrified’, which implies a persistent state. Electrocute = persistent, Lighting = transient (bang).
