Damage Per Second Question

Hey! I’m a primal strike druid (Call it whatever you want, I’m new here) playing with a 2h rifle and all the time I’m looking at the elemental/lightning/electrocute dmg % on the weps and if it’s lower i just throw it out basically but sometimes even if it’s lower it still says I get +200 DPS is that better somehow then? Is it trustworthy to just look at the +DPS and equip it even if I’m elemental? Well the short version of the question could be, does the DPS actually calculate it to lightning damage per second so whatever weapon has +dps is better?

Reason for the question is that I just found a legendary weapon that gives me +160 even tho it has nothing to do with either elemental/lightning/electrocute so I find it pretty weird, I tried it on and it even feels like they die harder even tho my old wep had like 90 light and 90 electrocute.

For primal strike there are four things your weapon could contribue to your dps to consider:
Attack speed - the largest factor makes you attack faster
Flat damage (ie base damage) more is better, best if you have high % lightning conversion
% lightning/elemental damages. Btw electrocute damage % is basically worthless
Skill points. A good skill point weapon can give a large dps boost too.

When comparing two different weapons as primal strike your tooltip dps should be a good indicator of how effective a weapon is. Btw Vortex of Souls and Will of Fate have hidden 100% projectile pierce chances making them superior to others for aoe purposes.

This weapon that gave me +dps did have 29% attack speed, so that’s probably why. And I’ve always thought “Well ele/light/elec same same…” if something had 15% lightning I would change it with like 19% electrocute because I thought it was the same literally.

/edit: Just for fun info, I switched many electrocute pieces back to lower lightning % pieces that i had in stash and my sheet dps did indeed go from 8k to 9.9k lol (Yes low dps, I’m noob, low lvl and everything else :P)
