Damage reduction to specific damage types

Specifically Nullification. Unlike every single other skill in the game, it only reduces Elemental damage of enemies by a substantial amount.

Then, all we have are a couple items with Physical damage reduction, a couple Devotions doing the same (only Elemental and Physical reductions) and that’s it. Why was there never any other skill/item in a similar vein? Everything else (meaning the vast majority) is just generic all damage reductions. Enemy’s Chaos Damage reduced by X%? Enemy’s Vitality Damage Reduced by X%? Why not?

I always kind of liked the concept of having a skill specifically against certain enemies, which also requires knowing/recognizing that they deal that type of damage, and remembering to cast it of course.

Nullification is also unique in a way that it lasts an insanely long enough of time. But I could see having even more powerful, specific damage type reductions, say 40% for example, lasting like 2 seconds. So you could reactively severely nerf the damage of some incoming nasty attack.

It just seems there is/was potential for toying with this mechanic more. Probably too late in the game’s life cycle for that, but I always wondered what was the reason for this mechanic being so seldomly used?

Nullification’s main purpose is not RR

And is this also exists

Yes, I mentioned there are a couple sources of Physical Damage reductions too. But no other types than Elemental and Physical. Wondering if it’s some limitation of the engine, or a deliberate choice.

Also, fully levelled Nullification is no joke on Elemental Damage heavy enemies. By far the biggest damage reduction in the game.

It’s a Titan Quest engine limitation. Physical and Elemental damage reduction are the only ones that are coded into the game.

The closest thing we have for other types is having the %less damage against enemy types that often use those damage types, such as %less damage against Aetherials if you want to reduce Aether damage.

How can we have total damage red then like from war cry?

Had my suspicion, but thanks for confirming.

I assume it works differently from the type specific damage reduction. And that method works in the engine.

You have a potion for it.

might even be slightly much, from my scrub pov

To me this is the most OP modifier of them all.

which one, the 60% longer cd version, or the 45% shorter cd version :scorv:

*those are the only two combos i’ve found so far, unsure if there is another vial to increase effect or alter cd etc further benefits

i’m using the short cd 45%, and it feels kinda… nuts

Ideal for high SR right before a nasty attack or when surrounded by a giant mob. Really makes a difference.

I see. Still haven’t got all the potion modifiers. That is indeed a powerful, all channel damage mitigation…

Nullification buff when? :stuck_out_tongue:

Nullification is on the most OP amulet.

I meant mostly the damage reduction part. A 20/20 Nullification caps out at 45% Elemental Damage reduction.

But now we have a potion that can be boosted all the way to 60% universal Damage Reduction. Sure, the DR from the potion does not have a 100% uptime, but Nullfication requires pretty heavy investment and of course, the Arcanist. The potion is just available to all characters.
