Hey has anyone found it a bit weird the part where:
from the wolnir bonfire you head back to that rickety rope bridge and break it to fall down to a little ledge, then the first enemy you find is a fire demon that gives you a boss soul?
It really irks me how I was getting to the ledge… felt like I was needing to use glitch to get there ‘safely’ and then i fight a boss first…
Found a different way anyone? Or feel like it was a bit weird? Or ok with it?
When the bridge breaks it turns into a ladder.
I did think that might have been the case…
just may have tried doing the drop before the game decided it was a ladder and giving me the prompt…
Atmosphere and dungeon crawl feel definitely more reminiscent of Demon Souls than DS1. View from the top of the old tower behind the firelink shrine was worth the 20000 souls i paid for it. would almost say this game has some of the best sets and environments of any game i have ever played.
Have a fire broadsword +3 in fallen knights armor character going well. found the early part of the game was easier to play with the small 100% phys block shield and no armour and either broadsword or halberd depending on the enemy.
enjoying all the sneaky paths and plunging attack areas.
the flow of play is much better than DS2 or even DS1. Haven’t really hit any major walls yet even when i have gone around a boss encounter, and i am about 15 hours+ into the game.
if you only ever play one “souls” game on PC i would recommend DSIII as the pick of the trilogy.
I am not playing this game, but I am watching game play videos and I can say that atmosphere from this game is the most powerful and touching (there is some magic, at least for me). Sceneries are definitely the best of the best. For some reason this game is mesmerizing for me, but i cant play it. Also attention to details and monsters design are beyond the ordinary words.
You’ll reach it eventually so I won’t spoil anything, but as long as we’re discussing atmosphere, I’ve just got to say that the final boss music is the most amazing final boss music you’ll ever hear and fits the tone perfectly.
“Eventually” is the operative word here.
better than DS1 final boss music?
the complete serenity of that tune with the fight was superb!
I will get there eventually too
oh and I found I completely missed a map branch!! grrrr. got to that blue city only to be told i can’t enter due to missing item (which you get from killing a boss i hadn’t seen!) DOH!
I’ll just say you’ll find it somewhat similar, but significantly different.
Two bugs that discourage me from continuing to play the game:
Anybody have solutions to these? Playing on PC btw.
I have neither of those issues, playing on pc too.
Is your controller getting old? Sometimes they lose their center, so the game is constantly getting input to move in said direction…
as for the first. I got nothing
taking both your issues together, it does sound like an input device issue though… does it happen for attacks etc as well??
I’m playing with keyboard and mouse. The game only recognizes my control pad’s analog stick for movement, nothing else. I do experience lag with attacks too, though not as bad as the dodge.
Nothing compares with the PS4 controller.
wow you are a dedicated souls fan… playing with keyboard and mouse!!
I use a 360 controller and don’t have issues, I believe Ceno is playing with the Steam controller, and he’s in ng++ and a second character now…
so now is a good day to buy a new controller!!
I always play with an xbox controller, even PS controllers don’t do it for me. i actually didn’t enjoy BB because of the ps4 controller.
Anyways im pretty sure Ceno is not using the steam controller he said that he didn’t like it. check this thread http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37314

Found the area under the smouldering lake last night. The way the enterance is revealed is clever game design, I won’t give away any spoiler, but it shows the sort of thoughtful game design that seems almost unique to the souls series amongst other triple A arpg titles in the last couple of years.
The timing of the games overall pacing is spot on, I never feel like I am constantly hindered or chasing my tail for no reason. There is always a new area to see, a new path to open up, a new challenge to face, new tactics to be considered.
Speaking of which, the and enemys’ attack variety makes every encounter memorable. Almost every enemy type is interesting and unique. They all require slightly or sometimes greatly different tactics in order to deal with them effectively.
Something new to DS3 is the swarm attack. Usually you can get through an area only agroing 1or 2 enemies at a time. However there is an area where you agro 12 or so skeletal swordsmen at once. You can use the environment to funnel them to your advantage but it still makes for a fun encounter.
Near this area is also a demon and a mimic in the same room. This is brilliant. If you play it right you can agro the demon then awaken the mimic and get the mimic to kill the demon, during which battle it is weakened, then easily pick off the mimic. These sort of encounters are what gave Darks Souls its reputation and distinct style of gameplay. Not to mention the omnipresent difficulty which is just waiting for you to mess up on your timing or attack strategy and then return your ass to you shredded in tatters.
Actually I think this souls is abit easier though enemis are still pretty merciless if you mess up an attack.
Level design is great. It feels streamlined without being boring. Distances between bonfires or major encounters are well timed. And there are plenty of secrets and alternate paths to discover. Even with this you are always being more or less funneled toward the next encounter.
This souls feels like it has distilled the essence of what makes a souls game down to a potent liquor which leaves the partaker intoxicated and satisfied.
I hate that area so much.
Absolutely. Its a perfect addition to the series.

As arnge referenced, I am not using the Steam Controller. I got the bundle of it with Dark Souls and was so frustrated with the thing that I bought a new 360 controller the same day that the Steam one arrived. Oh, there has been much mashing of ‘b’ to roll and ‘x’ to estus…
Reached NG+4 on one char, taking a step back and rolling a pure 2H character with the Dragonslayer Axe, because you can kill the Dancer/Dragonslayer Armor/Oceiros, the Consumed King all before you even fight Vordt. Its quite a lot of fun, although Prince Lothric/Lorian was brutal with 2H! This char beat the final boss but hasn’t gone into NG+ yet; trying to farm some particular items first.
Edit: I like the game:
well i hope so man:p I still like DKS1 more as of now, but DKS3 is fucking great so far. clearly you have “git gud” more than i. ohh well:p;)
I don’t think I’ll ever get to NG4+ Ceno
I’m already at a brick wall for the next two bosses after the Pontif (which is a friggin amazing fight. The design of him is ridiculous!!).
It’s probably because I’m actually too low level (even though I have 30 health already) because I’ve been buying all dem spells!
So i know what i need to do to get through the fights, its just a matter of farming
serves me right for being greedy with spells!
I actually really like the area under smouldering lake
it’s so smart! oh arnge did you also find that hidden item behind that **** which needs to **** like you did to open the entrance?
