After the recent announcement Blizzard made about Diablo which effectively slit their wrists… Have you considered hosting online dedicated servers in the near future? This would be a great time to explore that avenue.
Pretty sure they’ve explained multiple times that it would take an immeasurable amount of time and effort to incorporate servers into the game right now. Something this big would have to have been done at the beginning of development and the game would have to be designed around the idea of it or to take advantage of it.
They have said that it’s something they would consider for a Grim Dawn 2 (if this ever comes to be) but for now, dedicated servers are not really an option.
Not to mention, the game isn’t even designed with multiplayer in mind. PvP is out the window since player damage and player health aren’t comparable. And all raid-like content is designed for one player to beat, which makes it hard if not impossible to balance for multiplayer.
That said, Crate probably has nothing against a central server started and upkept by fans. I don’t speak for them obviously so don’t take that as fact.
GD wasn’t designed with that in mind and it’s too late for that to be an option.
Dude, not to sound like a dick, but this topic has been discussed to death and Crate said multiple times they won’t do it. It’s too late in development for that.

Discussed to death? If that were the case something would have popped up when I searched for it.
As for the rest of the posts, that’s unfortunate. Hopefully something happens at some point.

Is this enough? I can find more.
As said this has been suggested many times both in threads here on the forum and in the live dev streams. Here’s Crate’s response from a couple of the recent streams.
25th May:
"u said last time u wont make dedicated servers could u tell why would make game much better for everybody ?
bring dedicated server could improve the game and bring a ton of new players in… joining a game with 350+ ping no fun zentai plz make it happen
Yes. I haven’t heard that one before. As the question comes up all the time I will answer it one more time on stream. Dedicated servers would be a cool feature. I think if we were to have it, it would have to have happened when the game was new, when we could actually garner attention for the game and get people excited for the fact there are dedicated servers, there are seasons and all these hardcore multiplayer features. Instead we focussed on a single player experience, that is ultimately what Grim Dawn is about and we’re sticking to that, it’s working well for us. I think dedicated servers would be great, they will not happen for this game. Maybe Grim Dawn 2."

And from the 5th October:
"FiskeJR :Are there any plans for “closed online servers” like in D2?
Zantai_GD :no, that is something that would have needed to happen when the game was new"
I agree with the general sentiment here. I will say, however, I don’t think it would be that complicated for someone to take the netcode we do have and build a pretty nice private server client built to be connected to by password authentication. That would allow you to buy server space and set up your own lobby the same way more or less that Minecraft did. That’d be pretty cool, imo. Somebody who knows something about it should look at doing that instead. You wouldn’t even really need to pay someone to code it or have it done in a certain timeframe done that way. I’m pretty sure fans of other games have done similar things in the past.
Fatality!
Deticated servers cost tons of money which really not guarantied to pay off at this state of the lifespan of GD to say the least.
And not just the money, it would take craploads of work too to make the game balanced for multiplayer (and workpower cost money so here we go again, the payoff).
Not to mention that the whole focus of the game (from the beginning) is SP and encouraging modding with excessive tools, dedicated servers would go straight up against that too.
I think Crate would consider dedicated servers for Grim Dawn 2 if they ever make it, but i doubt it would ever happen to this GD.
And i could just end my blabbering with all caps IMHO or counting my change, but these exact things got replied on almost all of those similar threads by Crate employees.
I didn’t say anything about dedicated servers.
What I actually said was, someone in the community should take the netcode for hosting multiplayer and use that to create a client for hosting multiplayer from a private server. That would basically be like hosting a multiplayer game, just from a computer with better internet than what you have at home. Fan communities make private server clients all the time. Crate doesn’t and would not have to participate at all if they didn’t want to. You could run it yourself on any server, just like Ventrilo or Minecraft.
