Design Flaw in Arcanist tree.

Arcanist happens to be the ONLY tree that does not have a recovery mechanic built into the tree.

Because of this i have also come to the conclusion that unless you use a %weapon based attack. You cannot effectively play a Sorc in Ultimate. The only means of recovery you have at your disposal is either Devotion (dev’s keep nerfing this and intend on nerfing this further) or Vindictive Flame which is a Terrible regen at that.

So either use a weapon skill that you can leach off of. Or Tank up in Devotion skills. How fun is that ?
(Ironically Arcanist only has 1 skill that has %wep in it… w00t go CT)

I am not sure why This tree was left with out a recovery skill after the last pass but due to the low HP of this particular class combination and the complete lack of recovery skills. If your argument is that they are not supposed to get hit… I would say stop being obtuse and realize that Bosses almost all have 80-100% CC Reductions … So you are going to get hit… Dev’s have purposely made it so you Will get hit… I also don’t think there is a boss in the game that doesn’t have 50% slow resist either. So the core mechanics of Arcanist for avoiding damage are negated by Dev Design Choices. There is only 1 Item that even reduces Freeze Resist… and it is a Nightblade item Ironically…

I guess i am done with my rant… (sigh)

Just so you know, I play callidor’s tempest build as a sorcerer and I facetank Fabius in HC. So, If I can facetank him without moving, I guess you can kite with a ranged skill!

The idea of dual mastery is to cover what you need for a specific build, same goes for the devotion system. You shouldn’t be able to have everything winthin the same mastery.

I think it’s fine as it is.

Well CT does have 50% weapon damage at 26/16 so it can have decent Lifesteal
But I agree Sorcerer is more then capable of being played

You’re right, but as far as I know, damage convert to health doesn’t work againt Fabius  And those big chothonic monsters (can’t recall the name) for exemple

There are pieces of gear with On Crit or On Attack skills. These items can cover the lack of recovery skills. Arcanists also have a lot of defensive skills, which help reduce the need for recovery abilities.

What is ‘recovery’?

That’s because Arcanist is supposed to be the glass cannon mastery. You could instead argue that (atm) glass cannon aka high risk/reward builds don’t really work well.

High risk/reward skills should just be significantly more powerful IMO.

What is ‘recovery’?

He means HP recovery skills.

It also has the highest damage absorption skill in the game and 3 secs of invulnerability. It’s not a design flaw or oversight per se - it was intentionally done.

This was mentioned as it’s release drawback. Arcanist is a niche caster class with no healing abilities. Imo, what it does offer counters it’s inability to heal.

I don’t understand why every class has to have health recovery mechanic in game with dual-class system, tons of effects coming from devotion tree, tons of effects coming from items and components, life leech and health potions.

I really don’t see how “heal now” button is necessary, or even wanted, for arcanist tree.

I’d rather have this one excel at other ways of slaughtering things and not dying.

Tree of life and Behemoth solve all of your problems, lifesteal is pretty mediocre even when you do over 100% weapon damage. You simply won’t notice the lifesteal from Calidor’s in the late game.

Why have multiple classes if they all have the same thing? That’s the point of the class system, you reach for other classes that fill the gaps of your intended build. No recovery skill? Pick occultist. Problem solved. You have 5/6 masteries that give passive health regen, and 3/6 which give some kind of % health restored mechanic.

I mean what do you want? Arcanist has a skill that nullifies all damage(mirror) for a few seconds and another that reduces incoming damage(Maivens). What other class can offer complete damage mitigation, and permanent damage reduction to all types? Only Occultist and Soldier, and that’s from Exclusive skills. Which meeeeans you can stack it with maivens. IMO, that is the reason Arcanist has no heal.

This. And not to mention with MoE, with enough CD reduction, it’s almost an easily rotatable face-tank button. For melee builds this is cake.

It’s arguable that the Arcanist is one of the most versatile masteries in the game beside soldier.
