interesting you mention reviews, the interesting thing is, reviews of the game started to come in on Friday, when the embargo was lifted, and from many reviews, they gave the game a decent score, (PC version) yet none mentioned the DLC or microtransactions in game, but now it’s turning out that the reviews are getting edited to mention this fact. So the reviewers were probably told by SE not to mention the microtransactions, so they basically covered this up. it’s was 24 hours before the release when people from the PS4 noticed this BS, now it seems that those same reviews are not mentioning the BS as well.
so on top oof the pre order BS, you have the microtransaction BS that was hidden. SE really swooped to an all time low, and this is also misleading advertising as well. which in many countries is deemed illegal. akk in all, I think there might be enough cause to have a class action lawsuit against SE, but if that will really happen, is another.
And I also based nmy buying choice on some of those reviews, yet again no mention of the BS that is in the game, until NOW.
This is totally unacceptable, and some of the reviews were from places like PCgamer, that gave this game a decent score. We the gamer have been totally deceived in this. this is the problem.
True, that is an issue; however, it’s still compounded when people pre-order games.
Its clear from the Steam forums (toxic as always) are ranting about the microtransactions which I don’t see mentioned in the game’s store page. I find this troubling. Worse if the reviewers didn’t mention it - maybe they weren’t aware of it, maybe it was activated for their code release?
So I’ll give you that. That is a problem. Yet another reason I’m glad that I wait at least a week after a game’s release for the usual bug issues to be tackled and to see if it’s worth my time and money to spend on it.
I think Steam will need to add in Microtransactions to the game stores pages. At least it should be noted on the games page. The publisher/developer should really include that in the game description.
Though, I’ve been concerned about this game since it was initially revealed about the different levels of pre-purchasing options - which seemed a real scam. See TotalBiscuits video.
I completely forgot about that whole “augment your pre-order” nonsense. Square Enix were already a bunch of greedy assholes, but lately that has become even more worse.
I knew about that, and it got rid of by SE when there was a huge outcry, but yes, that was worrying, but SE did remove it. but now we have this whole new low about ingame transactions. and yes there was no mention of this.
as for reviewers not mentioning this, it’s possible that their copies did have this BS not enabled, but it was still withheld from SE themsevles, as they made no mention of this until people found this out the hard way.
that is truly deceitful marketing. I do regret gfetting this, but the gamers should have been told before hand what they were buying, and how the pre order stuff was going to work, yet that wasn’t clear until the game went live.
really hate SE now, going to have to be careful of any games from them now, as they will probably do the same BS in their next game.
Only hardcoregaming wrote a realistic review with a far lower score then other reviewers. but they got flamed for not following the flock with their generic reviews
It’s hard to believe, but the mainstream press actually manages to be worse at reviewing games than gaming journalists. You’d think the bar couldn’t be set much lower, because most gaming journalists are flatly stupid (in addition to crossing the street to avoid anything that looks remotely like ethics), but somehow they manage to tunnel under it whenever the hype of some silly flop-to-be gets loud enough to catch their attention and gives them an opportunity to push whatever “narrative” they’re trying to sell that day.
that is what I was saying in my review, but I will put it clearer,
weapons from the pre order items can be used in all saves, but I don’t really know how good they are.
however, the problem is with credits, grenades, ammo. these are save locked, so to take them out of the storage space, (which is besides the inventory) once you take say credits out in that save, then those credits are gone from the storage space and CAN NOT be used in a new playthrough or save.
but the problem is, the game is so bloody buggy, and a crash fest for a frw people, then if the game corrupts the save, or the save wipes, then you lost those item /s. this is the problem, bloody silly and a whole new low.
and this wasn’t mentioned by SE at all, they mislead people,
really not happy about this at all. and the problem is, if SE does this for this game, then its possible others will follow suit, so it may just keep getting worse and worse.
Don’t see anything wrong with the DLCs, you buy want you want, you ignore what you don’t want.
Only becomes a problem if the developer purposefully limit weapons and ammo drop to force you to buy the ammo and weapon, else they are free to sell whatever they want in microtransaction or DLCs.
In fact, the same DLC exist for DX:HR that give you some ability points, IEDs and a sawed off shotgun.
Also there is nothing wrong with no able to hold 60 FPS if you play with 8X MSAA, that is why visual settings exist, you pick what is best for your machine.
This was precisely what D3 claimed they would not do, and later admitted that they were doing. Believing that any human is capable of resisting the temptation to follow that model to its logical end despite the possibility of financial gain is beyond naive. It is delusional.
And yet that never happened in this game, so it was never a problem and will never be problem for this game.
Also, this game is purely single player only, you can cheat your way to a many credits and ammo you want and no body would care. You can’t even compare this to what Blizzard done with D3 which is obvious even before the game launch when they lie about the game content and how the game works.
The game is actually great fun and runs good on my machine on a HD 7870.
The pre-order ‘bonuses’ (if you can call them bonuses) and MTXs are scummy, as to be expected. So scummy, in fact, that I can’t help but feel glad that they are as they are. With luck, this shitfest + the NMS shitfest will finally convince people that preordering games is fucking stupid nine times out of ten.
Having said that, DE:MD is actually a really great game. I played it for hours on end yesterday and only stopped when I looked at the clock and realized it was 5AM. When I encounter a game that actually makes me want to keep playing it, I can’t help but give the game praise.
Playing on High-Ultra 1080p and maintaining ~70fps. That’s not bad. There are simply three settings that you need to turn off - MSAA, Volumetric Lighting, and Contact Hardening Shadows - and the game will run smooth as can be. VL and CHS don’t even actually improve the look of the game much, either, though you’d notice the quality difference between having MSAA on or off. Still, it looks beautiful to me. Although Adam Jensen’s beard and hair are irritating to look at…
Disagree. I enjoy actually playing MD a lot more than I enjoyed HR (and I liked HR a lot). If you ignore the superfluous MTXs and preorder controversy and actually focus on the quality of the game involved, MD is easily among my personal nominees for GOTY. While I can’t recommend ever getting a game for $60 (I, too, got it on sale at GMG) (I think AAA-pricing should be a thing of the past), I very highly recommend picking up DE:MD if you’re into the genre.
Anytime anyone wants to go all out raging on a “greedy developer” for making a “cash grab DLCs and microtransaction”, ask yourselves, are you forced to buy the DLCs and microtransactions to progress in the game? Do you have a choice to refuse to buy the DLC/microtransaction? Are you not experiencing the game to the fullest of if you do not buy the DLCs/microtransaction? If your answer is “no” to all the 3 quiestions, then there is no problem to it.
Developers are free to sell even a piece of cat litter rolled in glitter as DLC but that does not mean you have to buy it.
You cannot be serious. So, if they put a win button as a microtransaction, it’s okay because you don’t have to use it? That attitude is what’s sending current gaming to utter shit. You are allowing developers to basically turn games into litteral cash shops, letting people completely bypass portions of the game and other similar stuff by just spending a few bucks, and in some cases completely trivialize aspects of the game.
It doesn’t matter if i can enjoy without spending a dime, microtransactions shouldn’t exist in AAA games, period. Because they will start to charge for more and more stuff, to the point where to just start the game you have to pay. And before you say i’m exaggerating, trust me they will. AAA companies are getting greedier and greedier each year and what are you doing is basically letting them do whatever they want.
Given the ratings the game is getting on Steam and the aumont of people complaining, maybe we can stop this before it gets utterly ridiculous (and it’s already getting ridiculous).
Paying for the privilege of pressing start right after you just spend money on buying the game. It’s exaggerated, but i wouldn’t be suprised if they did that because that’s where we headed to. Paying for stuff we took for granted.
[SPOILER]At its very worst, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is just as good as Human Revolution, which is really not a problem if you think Human Revolution was absolutely bloody marvelous.
I’m sure you can guess what I thought of it by now.
