Lol I didn’t think I would ever see microtransactions in a singleplayer game but tbh games have been going to shit for a while now. The only game I have bought in years that is actually good is grim dawn. All other games seem like have done, greedy rip offs and it’s starting to piss me off.
Those of House Biscuit know: We Do Not Pre-Order.
Anyway, yeah. I had very high expectations of MD, especially after HR, but I certainly didn’t expect microtransactions in a form of cheats that you can buy in-game (I mean, seriously, in 2016 you no longer cheat and have to buy cheats, what a great direction Square Enix went, oh just wow).
I knew something was off since that “Augment your pre-order” crap, and it only got worse even though it was removed because of a huge uproar.
Square Enix
Microtransactions
Save locked single use DLC
Denuvo
Everything screams: “We want your money!”, so I decided to pass on. I won’t pre-order again, not after what I’ve gone through with Fallout 4 and RotTR.
Well this is worrying, a couple of posters on steam moved their MD game files to SSDs, only problem is, the game isn’t detecting the pre order content, / season pass. so the saves aren’t loading.
so the game has DRM locked saves and DRM locked locationsl, this is an all new low, now I really wish I hadn’t got this game, how can SE be so stupid?
fuck dlcs and microtransations
What does ‘pre order inceptive’ mean?
According to dictonary.com inceptive means:
adjective
-
beginning; initial.
-
Grammar. (of a derived verb, or of an aspect in verb inflection) expressing the beginning of the action indicated by the underlying verb, as Latin verbs in -scō, which generally have inceptive force, as calēscō “become or begin to be hot” from caleō “be hot.”.
noun, Grammar.
-
the inceptive aspect.
-
a verb in this aspect.
To me as a non-english native speaker it makes no sense in the context of the OP.
He meant incentive.
sorry my spelling is a bit off sometimes, never was good at splintering
yes I mean incentive.
Before I found this thread, I just started one.
Can you play the game without using microtransactions? is that just for lazy people that essential in a hurry?
Saw the trailer and it didn’t look bad.
Looked at a dozen game trailers this morning. They all looked so much alike you could hardly tell one from another.
If it’s as bad as this thread says perhaps I can get AMD to let me change
I have got a bit farther into it, hacking seems annoying and harder to do, then again wasn’t a fan of the mini game in HR, but in MD, it has a lot of difficulty spikes, some level 1 hacking can be very annoying, and stealth doesn’t seem to work.
So far the story seems just average, at least HR had a pretty decent story. Also there are problems with saving, the game can stop saving all the sudden. the issue is with the way they tied it to steam cloud, and the limited storage space it offers, (even if you have it disabled) so the game can stop saving if the directory gets full, even deleting saves doesn’t seem to fix it. Not have this bug yet, but a fair few do.
on top of a few crash bugs that makes the game unplayable for a few, all in all, the game needed a lot more time, I really wonder what the hell the devs were doing as the PC version clearly hasn’t been tested to a good degree.
Also, is you use any pre order bonuses, there is a high chance of the saves becoming corrupt, that and moving the game to another drive can invalidate saves and the DLC content.
I am having a lot of mixed feelings about the game, HR was a good game, but the MD just feels half baked and rushed. Granted the areas seem pretty decent, just a few issues here and there, and an average story at best.
I still think it only really worth a 6 maybe 7. but I don’t rate it as high as HR, that is for sure.
I didn’t like HR. I found that game to be unnecessarily difficult while trying to play the game as a “shooter”. After 30 minutes I was done with the game, and had no interest in continuing to play any further. Uninstalled it and never looked back, never had a desire to touch the game again. Got a refund on steam because I didn’t play it for 2 hours.
The microtransaction sells ammo and praxis which is you skill points, both which is abundant in the game. Not to mention that being a single player game, you can just download an editor and have as much ammo and praxis points you want.
Also be aware that this is an RPG, so lots of talking, reading and exploring. I like it so far.
Aicus, thanks for the information.
If anything like Witcher, it’s not my type. Everything is good as long as you don’t fight. In Witcher seemed clumsy.
It is a freebie for buying the RX 460 for my new computer. Yet to be built
none of the deus ex games have ever been a shooter at its core. the shooter and cover mechanics are clunky and can indeed get frustrating. but if you play it more like a stealth puzzle…that is when you’ll enjoy the game the most. Getting close and knocking people and occasionaly using a gun with tranq darts still feels satisfying compared to a more rambo playstyle.
This is true, saying that mind, sometimes its good to mix and match, go 50/50 on steal and shooting. I am doing a stealth game, sometimes it can be a bit frustrating to get by stuff, or complete objectives, yet, it can also be rewarding.
I would say the game rewards you very well by exploring, and hacking, even if the latter has some major spikes of difficulty, sometimes you can complete a hack within seconds, or other times, just keep tripping up the alarms and you get hardly any time to react.
There are plenty of praxis kits in the game, I upgraded a lot of my augs, not touched the experimental stuff yet. and ammo is fine as well.
But the big problem with the shop is how its been added, it has caused issues for a fair few people, especially the saving part. And crashing if you use something from the shop, it’s all linked to the way the DRM handles saves. I doubt they can really fix the issues, not without removing the DRM, but then that will make the shop useless. So I don’t see them taking the shop out to fix the buggy save system, but I wish they would.
Still not really enjoying the story, still seems very half baked, but the gameplay is decent, just a pity about other aspects of the game that is partially ruining it.
This is an interesting video to watch,
So does look like Square Enix pushed micro-transactions down the throats of the developer at the last minute. Can’t say I’m surprised and adding breach, (not that I’m bothered by that game) as well. I hate it when publishers really screw up games for their own greed. And does look like the game has been split into two parts, not surprised by that either. I have completed the game, I still think the story was fairly average, I think near the end, playing as stealth, I felt as if I was being punished, due to the curfew in Prague. It was damn hard to move around, still I was able to complete the game without killing anyone. I’m going to do it again, this time guns a blazing. Now that I have completed the game, I still give it a seven, weak story, especially if the story has been cut into two, but exploring the city of Prague was interesting, plenty of places to find, and side missions were also quite plentiful. I still hate the hacking mini game, I think they made that too hard in some places, I just wish hacking wasn’t so necessary or hard.
You don’t need to buy Praxis kits, as I’ve got a lot of them by completing side missions, the main missions and exploring in general. So the shop in game, is totally worthless, but the bloody publisher added it in for the hell of it. I still think Human Revolution is the better game, and with a better story.
I enjoyed playing mankind divided, but some parts of it really made me annoyed, (like hacking and the main story) otherwise, it’s not a bad game, just not that great, compared to the original or HR.
I don’t get why some people are upset over the micro transactions. Only reason to buy those Praxis points is if you want to cheat yourself getting the most out of the game. I’ve almost finished Main Quest M8 and have no problems related to too few Praxis points. The only thing from the Pre-order package I’ve taken is the special Tranquilizer Rifle. I’ve not killed a single enemy, but put a lot of them to sleep, mostly without the use of weapons. I’m playing at ‘Give me a Challenge’ difficulty setting.
Here’s a fact that Deus Ex MD is worse & also publisher itself. This may look like a rant, but it is all facts.
-Microtransaction in SP game
-Denuvo ; Using Denuvo for more greedier moves, thus affecting more piracy and more powerful reverse engineering tools to use in future, “Conspir4cy” for example “A more powerful cracking group was emerged”. Denuvo is temporary strategy for protecting game, not long term, thus wasting much money in short term plan, not worth it.
-Pre-Order false advertisement
-No new GOG game releases of their newer/old 2010 or 2011 titles, don’t expect newer titles of 2009-2013 games will be release, “Deus Ex HR”.
Why publisher does not learn good lessons from GOG?
Steam copies ‘2032,093’ + GOG copies ‘4000,000’= Much profit
http://steamspy.com/app/292030
Best Square Enix Game with Denuvo
http://steamspy.com/app/391220
So much lesser profit than Witcher 3 without DRM
Expect future releases of Square Enix games
-Indirect force transaction , P2FG-Pay to finish game model in SP, maybe. Like the boss is too brutally hard that normal gameplay can’t beat it. But with microtransaction to end game easily or quickly, end game. EUREKA for SE future business?
That’s just my observation, not all factual but might happen in future.
“I don’t get why some people are upset over the micro transactions.”
You don’t get it, didn’t you? This move is a sign of future business decision for SE. Even little moves will affect others significantly. Is not the microtransaction we are worried about, but their practices will keep getting worse in future.
The problem is, if Deus Ex mankind divided has micro-transactions, then Square Enix will add more micro-transactions in the future. Then other publishers will follow suit. The real issue is, while Deus Ex MD isn’t balanced around micro-transactions, the future games might be. If you seen that video which I posted above, then Square Enix put pressure on the developer to add micro-transactions in short notice. But if they have this power, then they could easily add more micro-transactions at the drop of a hat. Then other publishers will simply follow suit.
This is the issue, and how things may get worse and worse as time goes long. And if games are balanced around micro-transactions, things will only get worse. This is the fear which people are having, myself included.
The other issue is, the DRM is causing problems with save games, people not been able to save sometimes, or not been able to save at all. Because Steam cloud only has limited storage, and the save games can become really big, and if you have too many saves, the game refuses to save. That and the preorder bonuses, most are one-time only use, which only adds insult to injury, and can cause problems with saving and loading the game if you tried to install on another computer.
So there are a number of issues surrounding micro-transactions and how they are implemented, while not too bad in Deus Ex MD, but what if other games are balanced around micro-transactions? How much further will publishers go to force micro-transactions in future?
While I have not bought anything from the shop, nor will I, I just find the presence of the shop to be an insult, as it should have no place in single player game. But I’m more concerned with future games and how they may get treated by big publishers like Square Enix, I do feel sorry for the developers, as most will not have much of a say in the matter, especially if a big publisher has a lot of weight, and there had been some horror stories about publishers putting pressure on developers in recent years. That is why kickstarter became popular, even though, there’s been a few failures, but a few successes as well.
It’s just a shame, the publishers have so much power, they really should not have much say in the way games are made or handled, yet they do. No Man’s Sky is another perfect example that, that’s for another thread.
