Devils Crossing portal should be unlocked by default

Background: I started the game as a level 1 character and used a merit to unlock ultimate difficulty. I joined a multiplayer game and went through my own personal created rift to another player’s rift in the conclave of the three in order to join shattered realm games for the xp. After getting the xp and logging off, I logged back in to discover I spawn in the conclave of the three with zero portals unlocked. I can’t do any quests. I can’t travel anywhere.

If the devil’s crossing portal was unlocked by default, I could get back, but now I’m just stuck?

I had this happen to me once and the quick fix was to delete the savegame data for that difficulty. I don’t recall in which file exactly the unlocked portals are saved but I assume you don’t have done any quests yet so I think it’s safe to delete the whole folder for Ultimate difficulty, which is typically located here:

C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_charactername\levels_world001.map\Ultimate

Delete the contents of this folder and you’ll be able to start fresh in DC. This won’t affect your character, that data is stored elsewhere.

it’s very very important the char has done 0 quests etc if contemplating deleting the entire world/difficulty folder

to reset the character spawner you just need to delete the map.dat file inside the folder
