we can also let Knife decide that/make the objections if feeling the thread is getting taken over

Sorry if it seems this way. I didn’t mean to. No more interjection from me.

Thank Gnome!

@GIJW I appreciate the notion as I am sure its made in good faith. Worry not! I have been a member here from many years back and most of the folks here whom I interacted with over the years I consider my Grim Dawn mentors. @ContragorX is my HC Classless mentor, so I am honored that he is a part of this thread! I’m also honored to have you here as well, thank you for your kind words and for the feedback! EDIT: Also, I move VERY slow with this game, so if I am not posting much progress that doesnt mean I cant keep up or anything, it just means I havent been able to make significant progress yet, but I’m inspired to see others contributing to the challenge in their own journeys.

Everyone please keep interacting and dont feel bad about anything, I love all of it! This game is so good, and we are all super pumped for the expansion to come out so this helps hold us over until that fateful day!

I am not actually.

Oh, my bad. Well. Uh. At least this game is great as is!

@Knife How often do you find items that would boost your DPS/Def quite significantly, yet you’re unable to equip them without some serious gear reshuffling due to lack of attribute points?
I keep hoarding items that massively boost spirit / physique for this very reason.

yeah keeping items with affixes like Of The Boar/Eagle/Fox/Wolf is pretty much a must, there is no other way to get the necessary attributes (other than devotions but that’s usually not enough to cover the requirements)

Constantly, especially in late game where you’re straight up hard-locked out of some options.

But I wouldnt have it any other way. Its supposed to be hard, thats part of the challenge and the journey. I love it. Im excited for the day I finally complete this challenge. My reward for beating this challenge will be to finally, for the first time, allow myself to use GD Stash!

Before you do though, I’d suggest making a save of your progress. GDStash is good for endgame building but may be a curse for those who actually play the game. It nullifies the whole grind : reward concept and may ruin your entire gaming experience. Just a word of caution here.

Actually yeah, nevermind… I dont want to corrupt the experience of the new expansion!

Good looking out, man!

Hey everyone. I thought I’d jump in here as well. I’ve tried classless before, on normal mode, and made it to about level 35. This time I’m doing it on Veteran, and I even planned my devotions beforehand.

Here’s the build so far. I’m doing poison.

Ive thought about trying to do a poison build for a long time, because it seems like it would be pretty great- Slap the damage over time effects on enemies and use speed and evasion to stay safe. The main struggle with classless is how much you have to invest in defenses, and finding the balance between defenses and your damage output. You’ll need armor, and the faster you can get your resistances to 80% or close, the better, especially on veteran. That can be really tricky while using an off-hand thats not a shield, especially in the early/mid game. Just be aware of that- Speaking from experience, Ive lost like 10 beloved classless builds by failing to prioritize defenses.

Thanks, yeah, I’m so pumped for the new expansion! When it was announced I thought “I need to start a new thread with these guys to revive the classless discussions!” cuz were about to get a bunch of new gamechanging stuff.

Yeah a lack of healing killed all my classless attempts so far. The reason I’m going poison this time is because there’s a really good damage combo early on, and I can also go for Lizard Rat Behemoth as my early devotions.

As you can see, I got a lucky off hand craft on this character. So now I’m farming for a Plaguebearer’s Slithtongue to match it.

EDIT: Well, I died right after completing my setup. Level 22
Think for my next run I’ll stick to normal instead of veteran.

Yeah dude, Veteran is really tough unless you’re a pro. Great for learning and training, but very brutal and unforgiving, and to be honest can be extremely boring in classless due to enemies being literal damage sponges.

If I had stuck to poison bomb it would have been fine. I got too high concept with the build and it blew up. This time lack of healing wasn’t the problem, I just walked into too many enemies.

A melee build would not be viable on veteran, but it should be on normal. I’ll do poison at least once more before I try something different. An aether build could be a thing starting at 35.

95!

My own second attempt has just reached Twin Falls. I played on Normal until the last waypoint before Krieg, and then switched to Veteran. I did this because the good damage components unlock at 15-24, and noxious poison bomb at 20. It gave enough damage to do Veteran comfortably.

On this run I was very unlucky with component drops, so my damage combo is not complete yet. Need one more Mark of Dreeg.

Most of my close calls came in act2, to melee attacks from bandits. I’m very used to spamming Pneumatic Burst, and this time my favorite tool is not at my disposal.

I went to the Conclave after Krieg and did SR1 for the devotion point. Wasn’t too hard. I’d recommend having some pierce resistance for that.

Poison

EDIT: Decided to challenge Zarthusellan at level 34.

Damn dude! You got some balls!!! Thats a scary fight, even on Normal at that level, especially if youre classless!

I just hit level 97!
