I’m trying to understand exactly how devotion skill procs work. I currently have (3) devotion skills that proc on a percentage on attack. I have my (2) main attack skills - Devouring Swarm and Grasping Vines - activating as expected. The 3rd on is attached to Ill Omen, which is activating a summons (Bysmiel’s Command).
Here’s the confusion: it doesn’t seem to matter if I’m using Ill Omen or not for the summons to be activated. I’m finding that just having the skill on my bar is enough. Is this correct, or am I missing something? I double-checked my gear and other devotions, none proc summons.
All on attack devotion procs NEED an active skill to, well, proc them. Ill omen won’t activate an on attack devotion unless cast.
This is not to be confused with “when hit” devotions. Those need a passive (or temp buff like fighting spirit , blast Shield etc at least) to activate. So dryads blessing needs an active proccers; whereas chariot of the dead or turtle needs a passive.
it literally can’t activate if you didn’t use it, so you must be either mixing it up with a different proc
or you inaccurately gauging when/how long Omen is around for and ticking
Ill Omen is a debuff that sticks around. It will deal a tick of damage each second (or so).
Each and every of those damage ticks can trigger the devotion.
If you want to see for yourself how it works, cast only Ill Omen on a target dummy and wait.
I figured it out, I’m just blind. After re-enabling Ill Omen, I was starting to see (2) different Eldritch Hounds - one green and one blue. When I had both colors at the same time, I decided to check my gear one more time. The blue one was being called by Empowered Marrow Band.
also important to keep in mind devotion proc cooldown
something like bysmiel’s command has a rather long CD so there will be a decent time where you simply can’t trigger it no matter what/regardless how much you cast omen
