The whole thing is a mess. How in the world this hasn’t been redesigned yet is beyond me.
It’s overly confusing for literally no reason. Is it like that to make the devotion system seem complex and not another skill/mastery tree?

I think it is the coolest thing I’ve seen so far in a Hack and slash game.
The whole game is quite complex, if you dont understand all the mechanics
its literally impossible to rate an Item over another. This continues
in the devotion system. I was kind of lost too before I started to use a wiki
to get an overview. Learning that there are Tier1, Tier2, Tier3 constellations was really helpful to sort things out.
Once you realize that you basically pick some tier1, tier2 and 1 or 2 tier3 constellations with including skills and the rest is more or less to fill things up. And yes I agree I think such things should be Included in the Tutorial, or in an Ingame tutorial section. The game really does an awful job to explain itself.
The only thing i would like to see would be a better sort of filter, to see things which offers certain devotion by a number i want to see. I know you kinda can do that, but it isnt very precise and often dosnt show me what i need.
But I really think the basic design is awesome.
It’s not a complexity issue (in fact, the Devotion tree is actually not very complex), it’s a straight up UI issue. It’s very pretty and really cool but hard to navigate.
I don’t think I really mind it that much, but I largely give up on advanced planning because I’m not in the mood to convert the entire thing to a graph on paper. Once you select one of the branches it’s a bit easier to follow and see where you can/can’t go, but you won’t necessarily find the optimal setup, which I’m largely OK with.
Dargenus you might be interested in using grimcalc.com, it includes a Devotion window that you can fill and save.
Yep, I plan out my devotion tree on the grim dawn calc also.
I agree with you so much.
I feel like this system has to come with a guide and also remaking the UI.
I’m lvl 24 and I probably messed it up… which is pretty sad. Anyway I hope they will take care of it along with “We need food” Quest, which is also very messy.
Its heavily expected that you will redo your devotions several times, even on a single character.
The game offers two ways to easily do it.
Spirit Guide in Devil’s Crossing can help you respec skills/devotions for a cost that scales the more you do it (Starting at 25 scrap a pop, and it doubles every 10 points you respec IIRC). Great for minor edits, but has issues if you respec everything every few levels. Devotions just add a single, non-scaling 1 aether crystal per devotion point respec’d as well as the scaling scrap cost.
For bulk reworks of devotions, Nemesis bosses drop rare Tonics of Clarity which fully reset your entire devotion tree, helping you reset everything at once without much difficulty. Good for times where you need to respec full devotion loadouts, especially ones that have already been edited to be self-dependent heavily. An example of a good use for one is if you want to shift from heavily defensive devotions that you have been using to get through ultimate, to a more offensive set now that your gear is good enough to let you survive and use a more offensive loadout.
Also, for the love of god, use www.grimcalc.com to help plan out stuff, it is GREAT for planning out devotion trees. If you are not aiming for perfect min-maxes, it isn’t as needed, but for some of the absolute perfect min-max of points (Say, aiming for 2-3 T3 devotions), it is one of the best tools for the job.
Just an example, here is my super CDR spellbreaker devotion loadout, https://grimcalc.com/build/ft9ZBY. It grabs both Leviathan and Blind Sage, two T3 devotions of the purple/green typing, while also grabbing a few other small points. If I hadn’t been planning this out in Grimcalc, it would have been insanely hard to perfectly plan this out.
