Question is quite simple, I just want to know (roughly) what percentage of GD forum members were sold on GD before it was even a twinkle in evil medierra’s eye.
I really am not even sure if I like video games. But I spent thousands of hours in TQ and its mods and it looks like I will do the same with GD. They are basically the only games I have ever cared about.
So is GD your first experience with this engine? Or did you also play/love TQ?
I enjoyed D2 before discovering TQ and I found out about GD when I saw the Old Grove video a long time ago - but kinda forgot about it due to D3 in which case I later found it again after giving up on D3.
the titan quest anniv edition has the speed buff option, you can set the game from normal to fast and very fast! looks weird though but it’s more enjoyable because I cant stand to play on the normal setting!
That is so true, spend hundreds of hours playing Titan Quest but I can’t play it again because I discover Grim Dawn in the mean time. This game is a true heir of TQ and so much more
None of the above, love is far too strong a word for me. I did very much enjoy my time with TQ, I thought it was a well done ARPG when there weren’t a whole lot of other options, and certainly made me look forward to another game (in this case Grim Dawn). It did not make me love it though, D2 was already cemented in my heart there.
I pre-ordered GD way back when, based solely on the knowledge that it was being made by former Iron Lore developers. I’m sure I would have come around eventually, but yeah, the strength of TQ was enough to get me to pay full price for a game that they weren’t even sure they would finish.
Yes, and potion stacking limits went up to to 25 per slot. Still not the infinite that TQDefiler gave you, but it’s a beginning.
TQ is my favourite game, period. The masteries and skills, the mythology, etc, all seem perfect for me. It did take me a while to learn to play the game which I wouldn’t have done without the help and advice I got from the people over at titanquest.net, but once I got the hang of it you couldn’t stop me. I’ve been playing it every day since 2008 and I think I will until the game is either no longer updated for the latest PCs or I die.
So when Crate started talking of a new game using the TQ engine then of course I was immediately interested. Watching the game grow from an “idea” right through to full release has been an amazing experience for me and one I’ll never forget. I’m still learning to play GD properly, but I enjoy the differences it has from TQ. They are the only 2 ARPGs for me.
TQ was the best game I ever played, seriously, I have almost 2000h in that game and the only reason I stop playing was because of GD, as a lot of people said here TQ becomes “boring” once you get used to GD fast gameplay.
The only thing GD has to improve (quite a bit) is the design, TQ environment was amazing, the epic scale of places, Immortal Throne is the best act I ever played, going to heaven, hell and purgatory was, every single time (with my 1654983215 characters), quite a experience; the differences between acts made so you never got bored because you kept changing completely the settings in a few hours and for me it was always improving, Greece was OK, Egypt was cool, China was amazing, Immortal Throne was the best.
Im about 300h of playtime in GD and I am already feeling “unmotivated” because everything kind looks the same, monsters, places, dungeons… what keeps me playing is the absurd amount of builds, I have so many that I want to try out, I can tell Im going to play this game for quite some time, even with this “boredom” that makes me go into “automatic mode” not paying attention to anything except when Im about to level up and where is the next shrine, and that never, ever, happened when I was playing TQ.
I had never heard of TQ until I played GD and was told it worked off their engine. I took twenty minutes to research, and ended up duly impressed you went from something that bad to this. Or at least, it sure seems bad, in comparison, even if it is on the same engine.
Still loving it, tbh. Was “best diablolike” for me, before GD took the throne. Still better in a few areas (music variety, environment variety, epic+legendary gear looks), imho. Combat is hopelessly outdated, compared to GD though, heh. Hard to play it now, but love is still there.
The main aspect that caught my interest on GD waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back, was the fact that it was being developed by some of the guys behind the development of TQ, and because of the Dual Class System, so yeah…
