Unless someone tells me that pure punch builds are viable in this game, I think the weapon swap key should be disabled if there are no weapon/shield in the alt slot.
I use alt weapon swap sometimes but not often.
When you start a new character, it is disabled by default. But once you used it once, then the swap key will always work regardless if you have weapon equipped or not. I just hit it accidentally during battle and damn near died. I was left with no weapon punching at a horde of ennemies.
It is possible, but as I said I do use the feature sometimes and on other characters.
Very inconvenient to have to change the key setting all the time.
I understand. But disabling it completely, without removing the key bindings, would be hard. There is also a button on the HUD for swapping as well. Beside the rift button.
Maybe taking off the key binding and using the HUD button would be better?
Maybe just change the keybinding to something that’s still easy for you to get to but not as likely for you to hit in combat as [W], as in any of the lower 2 rows of keys instead of the ones directly under the hotkeys.
Probably too late to help you, but if you NEVER manually press the weapon swap button on the character/inventory screen, the swap weapon key does nothing.
That is why I am posting it into ‘‘feedback and suggestion’’. Right now there are no satisfying solution. It is always a compromise.
I know, I mentioned that in my first post. All that I am asking if for the dev to consider making this the default behaviour when there are NO weapons equipped in the alt slot.
Fighting with no weapons in this game is useless. Afaik the only reason you would do that is trololo.
It seems you do not understand the point of my post. It is aimed at the developers. It is in the idea and feedback section of the forum. I am asking them to consider changing this in a later patch.
There is a “No-Reply Feedback” section if you feel threatened by other users’ posts on a public forum.
There are already enough problems with the game not switching weapons when needed. And yours can be solved by rebinding the button, which is like the whole point of a button rebinding in the first place.
Sigh… My goal was not to prevent others from replying, I like discussion. I was even hoping someone could offer a file hack or something to restore this button to OFF state on a given character. I am also not feeling threatened, but annoyed. People seem to miss my point completely, you included.
I wanted to keep this brief and simple but seems nobody understands what I am saying, or disregards it as a non issue. It is not a big issue, granted, but it is still a small issue. I am just trying to offer an idea as to how the game can be polished a little more.
Now I will explain this once and for all in detail:
Basically, the point is : ‘’ WALKING AROUND WITH NO WEAPONS EQUIPPED IS USELESS IN THIS GAME ‘’ I am hoping someone can prove me wrong, that there is a hidden science behind unarmed combat in grim dawn, and that you can unlock its potential. At least let someone come over and say ‘’ I BEAT THE GAME WITH MY BARE HANDS ‘’ just to prove he could. And then say ‘’ But I liked to keep my sword in alt slot just in case ‘’.
But no, nobody is using this unfeature as far as i know. So I why keep around something that is useless? And that can potentially interfere negatively with the user’s experience?
On one of my current character there is a component aura on both sword and shield, meaning that accidentally switching the weapon sets dispels my auras. HAppened during a hard boss fight once. So yes, then I unlink the button so it does not happen again and I forget about it.
Then I start playing my other character. But with this one I switch from 2H melee to 2h ranged on occasion, when I feel i need to kite. But oh crap, forgot to re link the hotkey… See where I am going with this ?
I am just trying to offer a suggestion as to how the game can be further polished a little bit by making this key off by default when ONLY one set of item is equipped.
If it was such a silly idea, then why is the weapon swap key off by default whenever you start a new character ?
Path of exile for example does it right. When you press the key to switch weapon and you have only one weapon, you get a message ‘’ Please equip a weapon in the alternate weapon slot before using this key ‘’. The reason they do this is that having no weapon equipped and walking around among enemies is not something you want. So it is better disabled.
Hopefully developers or modders will find what I am saying makes sense. That is the only reason I made this thread.
To which was replied with YOU CAN’T SWITCH WEAPONS THROUGH THE HOTKEY UNTIL YOU MANUALLY SWITCH IT FROM THE INVENTORY. And if you are switching manually, surely you indent to put something in there, even though the game punishes with annoyances for incorporating the active weapon switching in a build.
Remind me again, why exactly have you “accidentally” switched your set? The inconvenient button binding totally doesn’t have anything to do with it.
Dunno, I thought it was a bug, but apparently it adds IMMERSHUN, whatever it means.
Yes, I intended to put something there back in level 15 when I had no gear and liked the possibility to switch to ranged in though spots. I am now level 68 and no longer have a need for it.
I could begin by telling you that all my relevent keys are very close together, and that I play Hardcore and have over 8 skills to refresh every 10 sec and sometimes in the heat of action, over hours of gameplay, an accident happens and I hit the wrong key.
But that is not what you are looking for right? What you must be wanting to hear is about how I am nothing but a clumsy noob mashing randomly around the keyboard and actually deserves whatever happens right? Don’t deny it, this is what you had in mind.
The only proper response to this is this :
