So I started from scratch, no grimarillion, upgraded to 1.1.9.4 and my character only displays as a level one character.
But if I load the character, it shows the character as it should be.
Has anyone encountered this?
Never heard of it before, try verifying your game files. Also are you using cloud saving?
I see the character file via documents > my games > grim dawn > save > main > the character’s name. I didn’t have it saved (syncd) to gog at first, then I turned it on thinking that could be the problem. Nope. Even with it sincd to gog galaxy, still does the same thing. Should I uninstall the game and reinstall it?
Did you verify the game files?
I got mine from gog, not steam. How would I do that?
Edit: Scratch that, I just found verify/repair in gog.
Click on the icon right of Play, go down to Manage Installation and then choose Verify/Repair.
Also under the Settings icon on the top left of the screen under Settings in that go to Game Features and make sure cloud saving is turned off there.
Also make sure it’s turned off in the ingame Options menu.

Okay just ran the verify / repair. I also checked to make sure the cloud saves box was empty, it is.
Then I ran game and same thing. I see the level 1 character. I click start and see my level 23.
Edit: Uninstall, then reinstall while I sleep? Worse come to worse, I lose a level 23 if I zap all saved files during uninstall process?
You can back up your save folder by simply copying it on to an external drive of some kind like a USB key. That way, even if it doesn’t fix it you still have the character to play if you want to.

I was messing around with the save file. After about a half a dozen fails, I found the solution.
Funny you should mention that. I ended up doing something similar, well sort of. I think.
I moved some of the files to a different folder. Hey it worked, for now. I’m happy.
And now I can see my level 23 on the display screen. It’s the little things that make games like these truly fun to play.
Thanks for sticking with me this passed hour or so. I wouldn’t have figured this out earlier, on my own, I am way too tired. Funny, being tired as all hell and thinking I could sneak in some game time. Oh well, all is good, I have a fully functional game/character. Tomorrow, errr later today, there will be PWNAGE!!!
