Hey everyone. I just finished the campaign with a pretty decent Pyromancer build. I played this in HC Ultimate, with blueprints and mandates, but otherwise no stash.
This was the plan for the build: Grimtools
And this is how it turned out: Inferna
For leveling in Ultimate, I did Vindictive Flame into Thermite Mine. That was enough to get me to level 50 when I added Doom Bolt. I farmed out the medal right about then as well. It was the first drop I got and I still haven’t bothered to replace it.
This character is really good in pretty much every way, except for playstyle. Thermite Mine is probably my least favorite RR skill. Now in the endgame I mostly rely on Curse for RR. Raw damage is good enough that most enemies die without any RR on them.
The original plan for the character was to be a piano caster. But in practice I only use 2 damage skills, Doom Bolt and Sun Spot. But if you wanted to, you could use Flame Breath from a helmet, and Korvaak’s Deception from a relic to get up to 4.
I did SR 10 with this character, but it should be able to reach about 20 without any further upgrades.
For now I’ll move on to my next build. Something with auras for RR, and a 1 button attack.
thermite mines being, less fun is why i did fire db on Ember’s pyro with then DEE able to get plopped in too for “facetank” (no sun spot on that tho), but i was also lucky and get the belt/offhand to actually make that happen while levelling.
Recently wanted to make a Sunspot specific build, but actually ran into "how the heck do i keep this alive"questions, because i had very specific theme criteria in mind, where demo regen would be default off the table, (aside from not wanting to deal with mines once again on another insta ground target skill ) - tho oathkeeper passive RR really doesn’t make it that much easier with the various “empyrion” constraints i was trying to stay within.
as general rule, if GT doesn’t list a source at the bottom of the item means it’s global drop
*i think the sole exception currently is SR sets which has no mention they only drop from SR troves
totem items can technically drop from anything too, even if they have massively increased chance from totems ofc (not that i think that’s the reason GT don’t mention it)
if it’s not a beginner or ssf “guide” i think it can be ok to have concepts like that. Even if Magpie does play mostly ssf and doesn’t use it himself, it can put some use to the accumulated stash some might have anyway.
*atleast i’m not reading this post as a regular guide/normal level build, but more a "food for thought"consideration type build topic, - “Sunspot works so if you happen to have/get the item you can do X”
I found 4 Judgement’s of Empyrion on my last character, all before level 100, and 1 on this character. It’s totally fine to put it in the plan. Unique items in Grim Dawn are not rare.
I have not found one since about 4 characters back.
My latest SSF char I wanted to play around with the Stonefather set. Even tried to transmute other set items into Stonefather items - after about 50 tries I gave up. So from perspective, I would not imagine my self planning a SSF char around a random legendary drop - those will always be “icing on the cake” or “what if” plans
For me, it depends a bit on the item slot. I am not so worried about armour pieces and weapons, which seem to have relatively high drop rates (not sure if this is actually true, or just my impression). I am very wary of amulets, which can be very elusive in my experience. A set amulet, Kaisan Eye or conduit is a good choice for an SSF build, imo.
I often keep every purple item until the end of Malmouth, and then make a bunch of dynamite and salvage them all. Last time I did this I had about 2 stash tabs worth.
I just came to astral fields in ultimate, have not done any skeleton key dungeon yet. Malmouth is saved.
Here are the level +84 legendaries I got while just questing and doing totems and shrines along the way

Pretty good haul but as can be demonstrated, we are far from even being closed to reach any kind of “guarnteed” drop confidence level. Sure, you can probably have most of the “global drop” legendaries after just a couple of days SR 20-21 farming. Maybe I do that as my new project…
Even if all legendaries had the same drops chance, you’d still be guaranteed to end up having i.e. 8 copies of one legendary and none of some other. Weird thing about RNG.
