DoT conversion is a thing now?

Hello!

Playing a bit with two Warpfire swords, I just realized that conversion now affect the basic damage but also its DoT form. ABB, OFF and its modifier or Shadow Strike and Nightfall, they all deal burn instead of frostburn.

Is that new? It was a requested feature but I don’t remember reading it in any changelog. If that is working as intended, it opens up a lot of new possibilities!

Meanwhile, Aether and Chaos still don’t have an actual name for their DoTs, which leads me to question:

Why?

Aether DoT: Name it Aetherburn damage

Chaos DoT: Name it Corruption damage

There was never a need to include it in a changelog because it has worked this way since conversion was introduced.

Does it matter? I mean neither does pierce and bleed doesn’t have a flat form, so it’s not like aether/chaos are unique in that regard.

Mmh ok… I’ve been playing for a while but I never noticed.

Bleed is the DoT for Pierce, last time I checked…?

And yeah, it does matter, because it looks like it’s an incomplete feature in the game…

EDIT:

I sincerely don’t think it’s ok to let these damage DoTs named “Unknown” on the tooltip, because it looks like it’s unintended behavior or an incomplete feature that was forggoten during EA.

It’s not. Pierce and Bleed share nothing in common.

That was a bug and has been fixed in v1.0.0.3.

Fixed like they added names or they removed DoT conversion?

The DoT conversion for chaos and aether has been removed.

Ok, thanks for your reply.

Hmmm… I always thought they were related, like Physical and Trauma damage are…

Meh, not exactly the “fix” I was hoping for, but whatever. :undecided:

Since we’re at it, do you guys know how Overload behaves with 100% cold converted to fire? I guess the two burn damages don’t stack.

What do you mean by related? It’s not like they are linked in the editor. If you go look at the TQ database editor (it’s probably like 90% the same.), you will see that there are different fields for each damage type, and there is no way to convert a flat source to DOT, or to mark it as a DOT. They are separate entities in the database, and are distinctly labeled as “Physical, Pierce, Fire, etc” and then there is another section for “Slow Physical, Bleeding, Fire, Poison, etc”.

To truly display how unrelated they are, when you want to stop fire damage what stat do you stack?

Fire.

Burn Damage?

Fire.

Now how about pierce damage?

Pierce, right?

Annnd bleed damage?

Dunno man… I never looked at the editor or any stuff like that.

When I said I thought they were “related”, I was merely assuming on how a lot of the main damage sources are usually accompanied by their DoTs counterparts, be it on skills, components, gear affixes, or gear bonuses in general, and how their resistances are linked, like Fire resistance will also increase your Burn resistance (yeah, I know that it doesn’t works like that when it comes to damage), hence why I thought Bleed was the DoT for Pierce.

A mod that makes bleed the DoT version of pierce is definitely something I plan to install as soon as one is made. The way it works as of now really is just a baffling inconsistency compared to every other damage type. Of course, this hinges on such a mod being made…I can’t really do it myself since I’m completely awful at programming. I tried taking an intro to programming class once…it’s the only class I’ve ever failed. I just can’t get my head around it at all.

Making bleed the DoT version of pierce damage would require a large amount of rebalancing resistance reduction in general.

Actually all damage types and their respective dots have nothing in common except being lumped together for resists.

By definition that is sharing something in common.

Sure, defensively. But offensively (the issue at hand) is no different.

Isn’t Internal Trauma converted to Bleed based on your Pierce conversion? I sure thought it was.

If so, I would call that related.

with cold to fire conversion, do u automatically deal 2x fire/burn damage with OFF (at -100% fire res) ?
