Oleron’s Rage adds 30-50 Internal Trauma over 5 seconds to your weapon damage, but the DoT gets refreshed each time you attack, so you’re not getting an additional 30-50 damage per attack, but much less. The same applies to Blade Arc and Dreeg’s Evil Eye; they cancel their own bleed/poison damage, which makes them much weaker than they appear.
Not only that, but getting +X% Poison Duration lowers your DPS, so it’s counterproductive. What is the purpose of ever using this mechanic then?
DoT from different sources already stack with each other, so why not also from the same source?
Because the damage output would be insane. DoT already melts mobs and it’s a cheap way to wear down bosses with little effort (just apply DoT and kite), there is no reason to buff an already strong mechanic.
duration doesn’t lower your dps. Making dots stack would break the game completely. Don’t give feedback until you at least understand how the game works.

If you use an ability that ticks for 10 damage/ second for 5 seconds and you double the duration you don’t tick 5 damage a second. You still tick 10. Duration is always a DPM upgrade. At certain points it becomes unneeded but that’s kinda rare.
Then what’s the point of Oleron’s Rage giving 5 seconds of IT damage, if you’re attacking multiple times per second? You only get the full 5 seconds of damage if you stop attacking.
I understand what you are saying, but the game is balanced around how it works currently. Changing the mechanics at this point would be more trouble than it is worth.
Now as for what good does it do by being the way it currently is, it basically lets you attack > switch targets > attack > kite if needed or switch targets again > attack etc, instead of having to keep attacking to do damage.
Perfect, that’s exactly what I want to do during 1v1 boss fights.
You still sometimes have to kite on 1v1 bossfights. Or do you plan on facetanking the likes of Callagadra on every single one of your builds?
Also, the game doesn’t line up bosses 1 by 1 unless you are talking strictly about story bosses. So not sure why that is relevant. Because otherwise we wouldn’t need AoE skills either by that logic because why would you want to do AoE dmg during 1v1 boss fights?
If this was happening then warlorlds with Octavious set would deal a 1.000.000 of internal trauma damage per second only with the forcewave, and this was a immediately broke not the balance itself but even every mentions of it.
DoT damage has been designed in-game and found by players to work best when you stack multiple sources of it. Your weapon is one source and Oleron’s Rage adds a portion of Trauma to it but you will want more. On non-DoT builds, it’s a nice extra, the main reason to take Oleron’s Rage is the % OA and movement speed.
Like others pointed out, this is how it works, changing DoTs to be self-stacking now would mean every DoT in the game needs re-evaluating.
Not only don’t DoTs stack from the same source, they don’t stack from different sources weapon dmg, too!
One needs to distinguish between:
- stacking on player and
- stacking on enemy
On Enemy, as mentioned above (hitting consecutive times) does, ofc, never stack.
On player, damage is, ofc, stackable when coming from different sources (still not sure about main hand & off hand)
