It feels like I’m sacrificing some stats on my relic slot just to gain the ability to dual-wield. If I go this route, would it make more sense to use Savagery/Primal Strike (focusing on +%lightning), or go Firestrike route and focus on Fire dmg? I have two Flamebrand sitting in my stash, but I also have a Crystallum and Light’s Defender Gauntlets for later.
Looking for something to tips the scales so I can stop procrastinating and get this toon on the road!
It can depend on the item and what you lose for it.
Direwolf Crest is a good option as it offers bonuses to Savagery if you go down that line and a fair bit of OA. It’s also preferable to use because relics like Ulzuin’s Pyroclasm are just too good to pass up.
It seems like, if I went with Fire Strike, that there is no itemization to support it while dual-wielding. I feel very penned in on this one in trying to find a Demo build that doesn’t end up being a Commando.
A DW Fire Strike Elementalist would be similar to a Saboteur, but a bit tankier for less DPS i think. You’ll have to swap out your relic or medal but the gearing should be more or less the same.
I agree with Baka. It seems like the only thing the Shaman tree would offer to a DW Fire Strike build is survivability through Wendigo Totem and Mog aura line and maybe Stormcaller’s Pact. Possibly Wind Devil line for phys/lightning and -% elemental resist, but Crown constellation serves the same purpose so eh. Seems like you might as well go Saboteur.
Going DW Savagery seems a bit better because you can get +lightning from Demo to buff it (as opposed to DW Fire Strike where you can’t get +fire from Shaman). Using the Demo tree for CCs, VF, Flame aura and Blast Shield while focusing on the Savagery line and other survival skills seems like it would be a nifty DW build that’s more differentiated from other DW builds.
I like where you’re taking this. I think I’ll go Savagery. It’s a flavor that is different from my current toons. It is still unfortunate, though, that I essentially sacrifice a slot just to gain dual wield. But, meh.
That’s always an option, but using Crest frees up that relic slot for something like Ulzuin’s Pyroclasm. I only mention it because it’s mentioned in OP that he’s not terribly thrilled about losing his relic slot.
