Duplicated Tag: Game won't launch

Since one week or so I’m unable to play the game because of this duplicated tags. I’ve tried some stuff without trying too hard. I’ve sent the crash log providing my e-mail address. I imagine I’ll never get any return. So, before I give up and just when I started my way to Malmouth and lose another list of chars I’ve decided to came here to accomplished this quest. Here’s what I’ve got.

Duplicate tag errors are normal and not the cause of your crashes.

What steps did you take so far to try and remedy it? And what is happening exactly?

When I remove all chars I load the game smoothly. In a nutshell, I did basically that I’ve tried not to push harder in order to avoid the “too late to rescue”.

I remove. I run the game. Once I put the chars back the game no longer load and display its main interface and stuff just fade to black.

Did you narrow down which file is causing it? Surely it’s not all of them.

I’ve tried as far as I can. I’ve got another issues with the device in the meantime as well. I was about to give one step forward I thought better be certain than sorry.

Oh my, oh my. I didn’t see you’re part of the team. I thought it was another common-user-file like me. So you might be able to help me out. What can I do?

You say removing all the saves fixes it. So put saves back one at time until the issue returns. Then you will know which file is the actual culprit.

I’ve made that not each char file. I must confess. Kinda of lack of hope.

I disable steam cloud saving and uninstall then load the game and then start putting the saves. Any suggestions or advice on this matter if it matters at all. Or I just remove every single char with no time to love?

I’d suggest turning off cloud saving in both the Steam settings and the ingame Options menu. Then in the local save folder (My Documents - My Games - Grim Dawn - save) put a character folder back and then see if you can launch the game with that character. If it’s okay, exit the game, put another character folder back and then try and launch the game with that one. Repeat until you get a character where you can’t launch the game and that should be the one with the problem.

do you happen to be playing on a custom version of grim dawn? like 9.8 beta branch?
i’ve experienced that saves are no longer backwards compatible (i’ve multiple installs of grim dawn); and when i try to load a save that has been entered on current 1.2.+ version of grim dawn, i can’t load the same save into an older version of grim dawn and game crashes (- my assumption was/is because certain changes to the save file format but i can’t know for sure ofc)

if so, try to double check your install of grim dawn is current/the updated version, including expansions enabled in library dlc section
*you should be able to see version nr bottom right on GD main menu screen

I’ll do just that. I’ll try without uninstalling to check. Seems more than one according to the numbers on the files. I’ll do it. I have one gear go.

No. I’ve tried rainbow when I played for the very first time and never try anything off the box. Look. I’ve got my whole HD erased and I could keep my chars which didn’t happen when I just uninstalled or the device went blue-screen-of-death when I lost my chars for the first time.

Ill do what I was told to do and come back to get y’all up-to-date because I’ve searched for this issue and I couldn’t find anything language-understandable.

Someday, somewhere might appear someone who has the same misfortune I have.
Also, i’m uptodate and now i can’t do anything the requires access to the main screen.
