With AoM released we got a lot of opportunities to create non-standard builds. One of interesting concepts was aether Forcewave build with Edge of Sanity.
I played around with this idea and faced with two main problems. The first one is survivability when fighting against bosses and nemesis (for example Fabius and especially if he has Mythical Cruel Edge). The second is damage issue: low DPS, Forcewave (FW) CD and lack of attack skills to be used when FW is in CD. Trying to resolve it ended up with following setup with FW’s CD reduced to 1 second (setup is not final and polished as build is in testing):
-Unlike other skill modifier conversions for Forcewave (Fire, Lightning, ect.) and Octavius, Aether misses out on the nice DoT damage on Internal Trauma.
You could maybe work it into a Krieg set as a rotational skill but I don’t think it’s needed when Krieg already boosts Blitz so much.
I’d rather they change the skill modifier on Edge of Sanity to something else really but I’m not certain what, part of me wants to say Aether Blade Arc but that doesn’t have much gear support either (besides Benn’Jhar Pauldrons).
Ofcause Octavius set is not BiS for this build. However for my testing purpose, taking into account the lack of gear support, the only way to reduce Forcewave CD as much as possible was to use this set. With mythical Clairvoyant’s Hat, mythical Will of the Living and Star Pact I was able to reduce CD to 1.7 second so far.
Honestly, this is one of the more baffling skill modifiers (yeah, there’s like -10% Cold resist to OFF, i know). It’s a CD Forcewave Aether, that means it misses DoT damage because Aether has no DoT.
This skill modifier would make sense on a two handed weapon though.
For pure aether Forcewave build it is sad, but true.
Yeah, it is common issue for skill modifiers with conversition to aether/chaos. It would be great if the skill DoT damages were taken into account in these cases. I mean if there is no sinergy (gear, devotions and etc.) between skill DoT type damage and aether/chaos, the skill modiffier from item should also convert the DoT to appropriate damage type. For example into burning/electrocute for aether and vitality decay for chaos.
Good idea. Don’t forget about Badge of Mastery with +5 to a given skill. The other option could be skill modifier for Cadence. And it would be nice EoS granting +1 or +2 to Blade Arc/Cadence due to the lack of gear support.
