The Grim Dawn editor has been updated with control for Z, X rotation of objects and in-editor object scaling. This is a small feature but one I am sure the modding community will appreciate as much as our levels designers are now. I’m not sure how we lived without this at Iron Lore. With Z, X rotation we can now rotate objects in all directions instead of only around the Y axis). Object scaling eliminates the need to create multiple versions of an object in the database simply to change the size. Together these simple enhancements to the Grim Dawn editor allow us to use objects much more creatively and get a lot more reuse out of them.
Here is a quick in-editor screenshot showing the controls
It’s still early but the current thinking is that do want to release the editor. It is something we would probably release shortly after the game since it may take additional time to package it up and make it ready for the community. There is perhaps a little conflict of interest but I think it is probably outweighed by the fact that additional content generated by the community could help increase the rate at which new content becomes available and aid in maintaining a larger player base. I think player-made can also specially cater to players with interest slightly divergent from the main audience or just outside of what Crate is focused on developing. Finally, I believe people would still want to buy the DLC in that it would continue the game story and include new items, enemies, and environment art.

I certainly would…I enjoy fan made mods and some of them are fantastic…but not often are they near the quality and scope as professionally made content.
Anyways, I think either way people would appreciate the stance you guys are taking.
I agree…while fan-made content is awesome, usually most folks who make fan content either don’t have the skills or don’t have the time it takes to do something that a team of dev’s would be able to do.
Also, it would be cool to see what a team of devs would be able to do when presented with ideas where maybe the idea is awesome, but the fan or fans don’t have the skills to add it to the game themselves.
Let’s face it…there are a lot of us who would love to have some kind of input where something we came up with got added to a game, even if we don’t get paid for it, just knowing that something awesome we came up with got added to a game we love…geek infamy ftw \o/
EDIT:Man…that function would be so awesome if added to the TorchED editor…I know they’re kinda the competition…but…maybe a little friendly email to the folks at Runic? >.>
this is gonna be so awsome. i cant wait to see an editor that doesent freeze every 2nd or give me little popups. ^.^ maybe ill just wait for that and stop bothering with tq:D
As an amateur programmer/coder who is about to graduate with my web programming degree, I love this kind of stuff. Just reading your post gave me insight I never had. I never knew about the need for multiple versions of the same object in the database to change size and such. Very interesting to me.
I have some good experience with java, html, jsp, javascript, and a few others, so if I can help with the site or anything in any way at all please let me know.
I’ll give you an idea of my skill level - I won a systems design challenge at my college and developed an entire system for National Instruments. Took about 5 months and it is a system they actually use at the company, not just a throw away project like most students develop during school.
Basically the system translated data stored in XML format (using SimpleXML and HTTPClient) into use-able forms, like charts, googl maps, and an expandable tree (using RichFaces). Also gave users the ability to add, edit and delete data that was stored in the XML (it was stored on a web service btw).
If I can do anything to help (besides the Legendary account I already bought), please let me know. I would be glad to help, and more real world experience would be great for my resume.
I am also developing a web site for myself right now, once it is done I will add it to my profile info so you guys can see a bit more of my skills
You could always buy a Legendary account for your self, and then give the other account to a friend. I’m sure that Medierra won’t have a problem with you doing that.
