I’ve put a decent amount of time into this game, have found a lot of secrets. Been surprised by some more recently that I’d stumbled across (Never knew for the longest time that the area below the ruins of arkovia (before going inside) wasn’t blank, but had a spot hidden further north with a chest. Tricksy devs!) but recently I’ve had a bit of confusion.
I’ve noticed ‘elemental resist’ gives cross-board coverage for fire/cold/lightning. Does ‘elemental damage’ work the same way? It’s just some odd numerical combination of the three? Or is it its own unique damage type? Apologies if this is buried somewhere in the forums.
Elemental damage dealt is equally split between Fire damage, Cold damage and Lightning damage as mentioned here in the Game Guide.
30 Ele dmg is basically 10 fire, 10 lightning, 10 cold.
+30% Ele dmg, however is +30% to fire, +30% to lightning, +30% to cold.
30 Elemental RR, likewise reduces enemy resistance by -30 to fire, -30 to lightning, -30 to cold
Hrm… so does that mean pluses to fire/lightning/cold will boost total elemental damage as well, though not by as much?
If you have lets say 30 elemental damage, then its like 10 cold, 10 fire, 10 lighting, like Maya wrote. And if you then get lets say +50% elemental damage, then you will end up with 15, 15, 15. But if you get +50% Fire damage, then only the fire part of that flat elemental damage amount gets multiplied. So you would end up with 10, 15, 10. I am sure not to be wrong here but who knows.
if you want to understand the mechanics of grim dawn, you have to read the online game guide. if you want to understand even more to maximize your build’s power, read the forum guides here. in game help and tutorials are not very helpful to new players.
This is correct ^
