I started the game with the Nomads mod and completed the normal difficulty at level 50. After killing last boss it says I can now play Elite but I see Ultimate is also available, probably one of the mod features.
So my question is, given that the game takes so much to complete and I have a pretty good level, should I play Elite or go directly Ultimate? Is there any advantage by doing Elite first?
If you go Elite>Ultimate, you’ll get good gear, level faster, unlock the devotions (unless you do Crucible). I went from Green/Blue gear to an almost full Legendary Setup (that supports my build + some useless items) by farming Elite. And Ultimate would be a lot “easier”
I see, thanks. The reason I asked is that I am already level 50 and nomads mod apparently modifies the life/mana level up, I have 10k life and 8k mana. When I finished normal level in Titan Quest I was level 25 or so.
So, given that this mod boosts somehow, Ultimate is still deadly? Because I prefer to farm in Ultimate and gain faster experience.
normally you should start ultimate on level 70ish. so i don’t recommend you to jump difficulty from normal to ultimate and you need to have enough resistance to not get 1 shotted by elites. imo
If you prefer something, then you should just do it. If you die to much, then go back to Elite. Natural progression is there for a reason, it’s not so much that you are just upping the difficulty, you are following the path the devs intended. Normal/Vet - 1-50, Elite - 50-70, Ultimate - 70-85. Forget what the max downscale of Ultimate is, but you’ll be underleveled and underresists for quite a while, as well as usually needing Elite Rep grinds to get Revered/lvl 70 for Faction Augments, it makes sense to reasonably be at a place to use those when you can purchase them.
Elite: It’s harder than normal, but things still die at a reasonable pace
Ultimate: Fall asleep waiting for things to die mode (if even slightly undergeared or suboptimal build) / Top-tier build + BiS Legendaries only mode / Elitist bragging fuel mode / Hardcore is a joke mode / If you have a full-time job you should probably do something else mode / UVHM was equally terrible in Borderlands 2 mode / One too many playthroughs per character mode
Ultimate in this game is nowhere as bad as Borderlands 2 UVHM. UVHM is the most overtuned and crappy designed highest diffculty mode i ever seen in a game. They were clearly trying to push co-op into the game when it’s supposed to be just a second way to enjoy the game.
Yeah this. Nothing will ever top enemies that can dual-wield legendary rocket launchers that can each oneshot you and won’t drop for you if you kill them.
Heh, thanks all. Indeed, it happened what I was worrying about, finished normal, then elite and now when it gets most interesting, ultimate, I lost any interest for the game, doing same areas over and over has only limited value.
So now I am level 75, first act ultimate and probably will never touch the game again, did every corner and killed every monster in previous levels. Probably it plays also that I had a gun which stuns the enemies so it was so damnt good that I coudn’t decide to replace it with better damage guns but without stun, so I was stuck with same weapon for all Elite.
Ahh but you didn’t! Not only are there a mess of hidden areas hidden area in normal and elite that you likely missed many of if you weren’t using a guide and it was your first play through, but there are additional areas not in normal and elite.
Spoiler Examples…
In act 1 near burwitch the crazy guy with the doll tells you he hid in the cave under the bridge…did you go find it?
Did you find and complete the sacred path quest series which spans several acts? While doing that did you find the hidden entrance to the Mad Queen giant bug monster and kill her?
Did you find the origins of the slith?
And yes other than the hidden areas, this game does lack much in the way of replayability through map diversity at end game. Some might argue that crucible provides that, but it’s a pretty pale comparison to mapping in PoE or the endless rift things in D3 etc. Hopefully over time there will be enough DLC and free content added to prop up that aspect before everyone has moved on.
