I tried the new Oathkeeper Mastery (mixed with Soldier for shield synergies). Somewhere around Homestead, pieces of the Perdition Set started dropping, a very interesting set (5-piece, modified in FG to grant +2 to Oathkeeper skills as a full-set bonus). Soon enough, I found the chest, legs and shield pieces, so I checked my stash from earlier runs, and lo and behold - the shoulders and hands pieces were right there! I had the full set ready at level 38, and I had to wait a bit before actually using it due to minimum level 40 requirement, but when I reached that, “hot knife through butter” ensued. Zaria fell in less than ten seconds and Karroz in about fifteen, counting both forms and the transition between them. I think I’m not going to change these slots for quite some time :).
Now, the questions:
During my previous runs, I found a number of Empowered Epic items. Since Perdition is also an Epic set - does an Empowered Perdition Set exist?
If the Empowered Perdition Set does exist, do the Empowered and the non-Empowered pieces work together, in terms of set bonuses? In other words, if I find, say, an Empowered Chestpiece and swap it in instead of the non-Empowered one, do I keep the full set bonus (+2 to all Oathkeeper skills is quite a lot to pass)?
Are there any other items or sets that work well for the Warlord (= Oathkeeper/Soldier) mastery, that would surpass the Perdition set, even if Empowered? At this moment, I’m closing in on Fort Ikon on Normal, so this is more of a “in the long run” question.
Three tiers of the Perdition set, normal, Empowered, and Mythical.
2/ No, you can’t combine piece of different tiers to get the set bonuses. Each set is considered a different set.
3/ Well, you see that Grimtools link above? This contains all the answers to your questions, and more…
Seriously though, you have much freedom in how to build your character, it’s not all about the fancy sets and legendaries. They help, sure, and the optimal builds often run specific powerful items, but there are “generalist” options that make almost anything work, things like Essence of Beronath, or Markovian set for Soldier and Virtue’s Light for Oathkeeper.
I know about Grimtools, but I tend not to use them too much. It’s easy to theorycraft a character build around some items - but what if you don’t find them? Even the Perdition set was an incredible luck on both my current run and previous runs. So I tend more to change my build on a whim, rather than preplanning too much. I don’t say this approach is optimal.
Well, I’ll see what the RNG will drop on me in further play .
“Not that hard to play self-found”? That’s a bit of an understatement, GD is extremely friendly with its loot drops, in comparison with other ARPGs.
Farming, of course, is a completely different matter. I try my best to make do with whatever I find, and if I hit a roadblock at some point, I may just drop the character and try a different one from scratch, instead of farming with uncertain results. Well, that’s why I have never made any serious progress on Ultimate :).
