Hi guys, I don’t see many 2h melee fire strike commando build thus I just came up with this guy: (the name taken from an anime character that I really like)
Main damage: Fire strike
Aoe from Shar’Zul, Torch, Flame Torrent, epic ring set
Reduce resistance: Thermite Mines, Flashbang, Ultos, Elemental Storm
Defensive: life steal component, Menhir’s Will, Blast Shield, Runeguard Greaves, Mark of Divinity
I think he’s gonna be a really cool character. I welcome feedback on improving the build.
I have a hard time choosing the suitable relic. My second choice would be Ulzuin’s Pyroclasm since it has nice damage proc. I don’t think Korvaak is great.
Possible devotion change: I would really like taking Phoenix or Fissure. Another possible layout would be going yellow and blue to take Empyrion. But the current setup looks cooler to me.
My main concern is survivability. Will level up a commando super fast to test the build. Would really like to receive criticism from you guys!
Anyway, wish the Grim Dawn community a happy new year!
You have to level Demolitionist mastery to the maximum and take Brimstone - it’s quite a bit of damage for Fire Strike
Your gloves are so wrong for this fire build - you are siphoning part of your main damage which is Fire into Lightning which is much less supported on this build. And those gloves have no attack speed which is absolutely criminal for a melee build, especially 2H one. Use Mythical Handguards of Justice
You forgot Eldritch Fire devotion - it’s vital to take as many source of -rr% as possible
Ultos is useless on this builds, or nods are completely wrong for us, better just take Viper and focus on Fire devotions
For relic Korvaak’s Deception would be bis here
This Medal is not needed on comando
skill distribution is wrong too
with 10% slow res you are going to lose a lot of damage, need 50 at least.
So, still a lot of work before this build is trully viable.
Thanks for the feedback. I am adjusting the build and will update it soon. However, I don’t know which medal to replace the current one. Is Pyroclasm Mark a good choice here?
Also, is the damage on the charge skill of Korvaak good enough? Mogdrogen gives skills and attack speed tho
Looks okay, but I’d drop harp devotion for revenant for more as and lifesteal as well as racial damage. Then you can safely drop seal of blades for an enchanted flint, take a look at how much your flat weapon damage goes up with a flint! Explosive strike and static strike max don’t do much for you tbh. You really want maxed out flame touched for more flat/oa. I think it’s at least acceptable to just 1 point flashbang here, but not 1 pointing searing light is very foolish.
Btw I would not bother with soldier as a secondary unless you are actually gonna use forcewave. Soldier gives really nice oa and armor I’ll admit, but we can get good defense/oa from other class combos and soldier offers you literally nothing outside of oa for damage
I really like the idea of Enchanted Flint there. However I really like Harp. In fact, I have no characters that don’t use Harp… It feels weird not having
I will try testing the change to skill points and see.
You don’t need Soldier for FS build.
You don’t need Ulzuin set for melee build.
And of course you really don’t need maxing Vindictive flame and Thermite mines.
Inquisitor. If set has FW bonuses, that doesn’t mean it’s FW based only, Justicar also is the best choice for melee and ranged.
And you don’t need Worldeater for FS build, Barthollem’s Warmaul much more better.
I think I will come up with a Purifier version (which might be better because of more rr from Aura of Censure) but at the moment I’m trying to work with Commando.
Justicar set is cool but I kinda like the +2 to skills from Ulzuin better.
Regarding the weapon idk which is worse: grinding for a Shar’Zul and grinding for a well rolled Barthollem. I will just run each of them in a game and choose whatever comes out first
Don’t despair. While it’s true that Inquisitor is miles above most (all?) other masteries for support, Demo can be effective to a lesser extent. Try the advice given and play it for a while. That way you don’t start over and have to drudge through everything you have already done.
Soldier is also a pretty strong support mastery and should provide some fair defense.
So I followed this build and made some adjustments based on the replies. I’m only playing campaign but it’s a lot of fun to use and does a good amount of damage. My only concern is health/ADCtH. Thinking about swapping Enchanted Flint for Seal of Blades but I don’t know the best route to get more health into the build. Here’s my current build:
Justicar IS better here. Try it. You become a proper tank, you can face tank all and keep your enemies on the mines. Amulet is freed so you lose +1 to demo but gain +1 to soldier from Empwered Essence of Beronath. You lose plenty points on Fire Strike, though…
But you’re right about FW. If you posted it with Shar’Zul+Justice ppl would be like “hey it should be Firewave”
Some feedback if you don’t mind:
Do you really need that Harp and Toad? Try to fit in Revenant as your top priority and Jackal if possible. Every 1% attack speed is tons of DPS for Firestrike.
I think not using BwC here is a mistake. It’s a turboproccer and some dmg red, and you could even experiment with Agonizing to get rid of Elemental Storm which forces you to invest in purple devotions. I also used to skip on it with Shar’Zul because I didn’t like the waste of oa shred but when so much of your DPS depends on good devo proccing, it might still be good, I think.
I don’t love those boots. I think Stormtitans with stun res, dmg red and health would be better here than unreliable armor boost. Dunno about res, though, but pretty sure it’s doable.
