A game mode where the campaign is skipped and the player simply plays die-and-your-done, keep the loot dungeons one after another.
Use the roguelikes that are in game currently and add more.
Add everything necessary to facilitate playing this mode exclusively - meeting the factions so that their rep can be kill-grinded up and the player can get augments, a means of obtaining more loot bags (that could be a major progression mechanic since there’s no portaling), randomly tuck shrines into the dungeons somewhere, possibly even some generic questing (“bring me back three of this kind of monster infrequent”).
One thing that edges this idea out of me is how much players don’t like elite. I think the campaign with three difficulties is perfectly fine at being what it is, but I just get tired of running errands to open the next door all day when I just want to smash things and build my character, and to me that feels like I want something that isn’t a campaign at all.
Crucible is fun but it lacks exploration, lacks getting chests as you go and optimizing the loot bag, the experience gain feels weird (not bad or weak just weird), and the messes of mixed enemies aren’t a bad thing but the regular concept of “fighting enemies in the sets they’re designed to be fought in, and knowing which dungeon I’m going into so I know which set of enemies I’m fighting”, is fun too. Thus I think my idea is something separate from crucible as well.
Hence this wild fantasy of a game mode idea. Yes, the developer has their own ideas, yes, they’ll work on those and not mine (and they should, they’re good at what they do). But what do you guys think? Does it sound redundant with stuff that’s already in the game?
