So finally upgraded my RT-AX82U/DSL-AX5400’s firmware only for the WAN port to stop working for no fucking reason.
Figured it was a setting issue, but nope looks like it’s an issue with how the firmware installed itself, so now I have to factory reset and install the firmware again. All because ASUS, despite making a very solid, high performance home router with mostly solid tools decided to fucking cheap out one rather important thing - Making sure upgrading the firmware is a smooth process.
And if this doesn’t fix it, I have to go buy another router, because I don’t have the tools and skills to fix this bloody problem. And you can’t reassign the WAN port either to one of the existing LAN ports either, nor is their a back up port.
Oh and it’s not the cable, works fine in the shitty ISP router. So I may very well be facing a router that died within 4 years of being sold. Got it 2nd hand, but dear fucking elder gods, routers are meant to fucking last T_T
If it is borked, it’ll have to wait, the ADHD diagnosis comes higher and that’s NZ$800. Similar spec router will cost ~$200-$300 2nd hand, and I’ve got to finally resole my tramping boots as well to help me get more exercise, which is another ~$220.
