Failed again!

I love this game, and the Soldier is my favorite character by far. And once again, I have failed to defeat the Elite level. I have never gotten farther than Fort Ikon.

My Soldier builds emphasize “poison” for Devotion skills. Does anyone who has ever beaten Elite level have a better suggestion?

I either reject a second class or only use it sparingly, getting a passive skill and ignoring the rest. Does anyone have a better suggestion?

I prefer using a sword and shield, which has taken me farther than a two-handed weapon or firearms. Again, does anyone have a better suggestion?

Thank you.

yes, invest a lot more in your second mastery.

First of all, make sure you get the mastery bars up, one at 50 the other at least at 32, you need the additional attributes from it.

Second, what do you mean by fail ? Are you playing HC ? are you unable to make it past Ikon ? One boss in particular ?

If you want poison, Nightblade is a good second mastery, Shaman is a good second mastery if you want bleed (another DOT option).

Maybe look at some builds to get an inspiration s far as skills and devotions are concerned, gear is not really an option for you yet.

I don’t think you get much/any help to Acid/Poison from Soldier w/out gear, that converts physical into Poison.
Adding crimtools link helps always, but imo you got two options like mamba said.

  1. Use Soldier as support and Nightblade as main damage.
  2. Respec into Bleed and use Soldier as main damage and Shaman or Occultist as support to get more damage and most importantly resistance reduction 'cos Bleed kinda sucks w/out debuffs like Curse of Frailty or Devouring Swarm against the undead in Arkovian Undercity and Steps of Torment.

Can’t say much about levelling as a sword n board soldier as I’ve levelled as a 2H physical/IT forcewave soldier. It’s not going to have the same single target damage as a cadence build but it might be more survivable as it allows you to keep your distance from dangerous enemies and more convenient because you have enough AOE to kill trashmobs quickly.

Always level any build based with the intention of End-Capped Soldier with 2-Handed Forcewave.

Life is just so.much.easier. that way.

You ought to be able to blow through most of if not all of Elite that way, easily (barring side content and AoM).

THEN you respec into whatever.

I do that with all of my Soldja Bois.

Even the girls.

Heck, I even do that with my 32 SP Soldiers.

There’s enough bulk between Skills and 32 points of Soldier to get you Ultimate, if you farm even just a little bit.

Thank you for your suggestions. May I ask what devotional skills you choose for your Soldiers?

Well, with 2-Handed Forcewave, you’re going to be wanting to hit up Kraken ASAP, so whatever gets you there.

It is still my habit of getting Falcon, and going from there - the only real difference in leveling for me since the new constellations were added, is that I like to get that Toad ADCtH.

Your final Devotional setup is going to depend entirely on what your end-game class will be.

Physical Melee still loves itself some Blind Fury, and Assassin’s Mark.

As with all new players who ask for build advice…

I’ve personally tried very hard to make an end game poison based witch blade. I don’t think it’s very viable per se (might work for vanilla, I’m not sure). The highest amount of physical to poison damage conversion I could scrounge up amounted to 50%. 60% with phenomenal rolls.

In essence, you want to understand the mechanics of damage conversion should you wish to continue experimenting with your poison WB.

Given the complexity of said mechanism, I suggest doing a more straightforward physical based WB.

Yeap…

I tried with everything at my disposal, and it just seems pointless.

I wish the Venomblade got more reworks to build a Poison WB or Sab into viability.

Jabs, let me make sure I understand you. To get Two-Handed Forcewave, I have to get the Kraken devotional? And what if I am using a one-handed weapon and a shield?

It is the other way around. Kraken requires a two-handed weapon (melee or ranged).

Folks, we’ve got some geniuses on this forum.

I did not like the suggestion to build up Defense, as I prefer to make my Offense as high as possible. But I gave it a try, along with going after “Physical Damage,” rather than “Poison,” with my Devotion points. I also allocated Attribute points to Physique and Health, rather than to Cunning.

I’m advancing more rapidly, mainly because I don’t have to spend so much time running while my Poison kills off whoever is chasing me. I have a much better chance of defeating the Elite level when I get there.

Thank you for all of your good advice.
