Failing at Arcblade Battlemage

Hi everyone,

I’ve been trying to make an aether/elemental Battlemage using shard of beronath and temporal arcblade, but the final version just falls flat on its face compared to many of the builds out there. 20k sheet dps, only 8.5k health. Maxed resists thankfully, and have decent procs from my item and devotion selection, but it just doesn’t feel like it is reaching its potential.

Here’s what I’ve got so far http://grimcalc.com/build/1008-OIuiBf

I’m using a lifegiver ring for adcth so I skipped out on healing devotions but even with that, my damage output is so low that I’m not healing enough to keep up. Is it really impossible to build aether/elemental or am I just not thinking outside the box enough?

Hello!

Your problem is that you’re building it like an auto-attack build when that sword is meant for Callidor’s Tempest spam build OR Cadence + Agrivix Tempest (the transmuter) build, with the former being more optimal. Notice how the cast speed buff is larger than the attack speed buff on the sword. Building it for Beronath’s Fury + weapon procs auto-attack completely ignores the real strengths of the sword (cast speed, -% energy cost, -% cooldown reduction) and is destined to be sub-optimal. The Soldier’s weapon procs really aren’t all that amazing and there’s not an awful lot of attack speed support for Battlemage. In addition your damage type is being split 3 ways (40-50% Aether, 35% elemental w/ IEE, 15-25% Physical) so you’re only buffing 3/4ths of your damage. Flat Aether and Elemental damage numbers are decent, but not great.

If you’re still interested in that approach though you can try making it work; it may still be able to handle ultimate content. I’d invest in IEE + War Cry for elemental conversion and survivability. I’d leave Maiven at like 3 points and put the points into Menhirs Will, that skill is legit. Leave MA and ZT at 8/12, leave Fighting Spirit at 6/12, take out OFF skill points and invest in Callidor’s Tempest.
