Any significant updates coming to modding tools with Fangs? Especially making them easier to use. Also, does anyone know if any AI programs can help with modding (either on the user end/our end or on the developers end to make the tools better/easier to use)? I’ve tried to use ChatGPT a little (ask it questions about modding the game); sometimes it’s helpful but it makes a lot or errors. I mean crazy stuff like referencing files that don’t even exist/wrong filenames.
AI hallucinating? Shocking. Lol
Yeah, it’s not exactly reliable.
Imagine a day when we could do something like this to mod:
“Create frost strike based on fire strike and associated skills in the nightblade tree.”
And the AI would just do all the work, new skills, UI/tree update, changing fire to frost damage, changing fire like animations to frost, etc… The dream.
So far all AI achieved is ramped computer hardware prices so high that nobody will buy a decent PC for three years minimum.
Remember that AI systems are nothing more than glorified search systems. Searching for specific modding questions for Grim Dawn can lead to threads/forums for other games entirely because there simply aren’t the threads that are applicable to Grim Dawn. Even Crate’s search function leads to threads from the ancient era and links to the old forum structure where you can’t even get to the links presented in those forum threads.
What ends up happening is that the AI system picks up the answer from a thread discussing a different game (say V Rising or Wolcen), then mistakenly attributes that to Grim Dawn and says “you can apply this knowledge here” when it’s clearly not the case.
You would basically have to hire a developer team to place all that data within the AI system (“Here’s how to implement particle systems,” “Here’s how to make animations”), but at that point, just hire the team and have them teach you the steps instead. There simply aren’t enough people interested in modding where an AI system that takes the collaborative work of the development team would be remotely feasible.
I do mods strictly for the creative aspect. I’m not actually interested in a machine trying to do it for me because that would take all the fun out of it. Yes the tools should be better linked and more intuitive, but not with AI.
